I almost can't be bothered to actually write a review. I think there's no denying that Anita Shreve has a fairly good way with words but I find her books lifeless, joyless and dank. I read it in a 'getting it over with' way but really didn't enjoy it. The only Anita Shreve book I've read which I kinda liked was Light on Snow. My mum keeps lending them to me - next time I'll just say no.

Inferno and Purgatorio were good, but Paradisio seemed a bit repetitive. It had a lot of slight variants on the same theme.
I enjoyed this. I plan to pick up more books by Jodi.

One of my favorite books of all time.

Again -- one of this long, interwoven, semi-mysterious books that I love! It provides an ever-twisting plot set against the age of enlightenment in England!
Not as good as the other ones I've read, but maybe I'm ODing just a bit. Still awesome though. Very funny, and very well done. I like him a lot better than Neil Gaimon (don't kill me!).
I loved the illustrations in this book, but this is a substandard take-off on "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly." Alison Jackson's "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie" puts this book to shame.

JB does not disappoint. And it's lovely to see all the three books connected parallel in time.
I first read it in a class taught by Alfred Appel, the guy who wrote the annotations and a student and friend of Nabokov. Pretty amazing.

A gem! It's a collection of significant passages from his treatises on the four cardinal virtues and the theological virtue of hope. Beautifully written, and thought-provoking.
