it's supposed to be his 3 books put into 1 big one. there's really nothing all that different from 1 book to the next, and each chapter really doesn't have much to do with the next. it's really just short stories and not edited very well either...

In this wordless picture book, a boy draws pictures in the condensation on the windows of his school bus on the way to the Empire State Building on a field trip. It is foggy when they get there, and there is nothing to see from the observation deck. However, a cloud steals the boy’s hat and scarf, and entertains him while he is there. But then the cloud gets an idea. He takes the boy back to Sector 7 with him, a subway terminal of sorts in the air, where clouds are given their shapes and destinations. Unsatisfied with the normal shapes and sizes of the cirrus and nimbus and other variables, the boy designs some others of his own on the backs of the clouds’ assignment sheets. This causes quite a stir among the clouds, and they soon get in line to be redesigned by the talented boy. He gives them fish shapes and octopus shapes, star shapes and curlicue shapes. But when the people who work at the terminal see what is going on, they send the boy back to the Empire State Building, and we see that the landscape of the sky has been changed forever. Teachers can use this book as a tool to explore concepts of visual literacy by having students split up into groups of 4-5, take turns telling each other orally what is happening in the book. Each group will prepare a written narrative to go along with the story, and then present their interpretations to the rest of the class. This will reinforce the idea of interpreting visual Literacies, and also the concept that there is more than one way to tell the same story. This would be a good exercise to use to introduce concepts of Oral traditions in literature, because students would be able to grasp the idea that stories change over time and through each storyteller.

This book was amazing!!! I couldn't believe in some parts that what was happening did happen in real life!

An absolutely brilliant book - my favourite of Neil Gaiman's. This is the story of the tribulations of Richard Mayhew, London businessman who, after an act of kindness, finds himself finding a side to London he had never seen before. There are many things I loved about this book. The basic plot was in and of itself good, but for me it was the wonderfully whimsical characters that Gaiman created and the playful nature of London Below that won me over. A few chapters in and I was joining in this creative game, coming up with other possible denizens of this magnificent world. Not all is pure fun. There is a serious side to the novel as well, as Gaiman explores what it means to be homeless,to fall through the cracks of society. A thought provoking dimension to this work. It also leaves you pondering several times as to what is really happening. In many ways I found this to be reminiscent of the Robin Williams / Terry Gilliam film 'The Fisher King'. This was the first Neil Gaiman book I read, and it was a pleasure to reread it. Definitely recommended!

very quick read that gives you a practical approach for on the spot developmental counseling and relationship building that I have used in the army and with kids in educaiton
I liked this book as well as Mary, Queen of Scots. She certainly was much more interesting than her cousin Elizabeth. The book cleared up some more of English history for me. I am glad to know that after all her suffering, her son did become King of England while Elizabeth remained childless.

This is a YA book covering the history of eight female pirates, from a Danish princess shrouded in myth to a Chinese warlord who commanded six fleets of pirate ships. My favorite was Fanny Campbell, a revolutionary-era pirate who set off in disguise to rescue her fiance from a Caribbean prison. They later capture a British ship with Fanny's former suitor on board! I can't believe they never made a movie out of this. Oh wait...

This book had the potential to be so good. First of all, everyone needs to know this is the first in a new series of books. I was so disappointed at the end, not realizing it was the first in a series, and so thinking that it was the worst ending ever. Anyway, even as the first book in a series, it still had a rather disappointing ending. Very little was resolved. But I guess that leaves it open to at least one more book. Anyway, the book itself was alright. It had an interesting plot, and some neat plot twists that were very unexpected. The incorporation of old pictures was neat, too. On the other hand, every character besides the narrator was rather flat. Hopefully that will change in the future books. This book just reminded me of more reasons I don't generally enjoy YA books. Yes, it was fun, but when I'm looking for just fun I usually turn to movies and t.v. When I'm looking for something to be touching, thoughtful, and interesting then I go to books. This book would make a really fun movie, but for me it was just not as good as it could have been.
