Had highest hopes, but as someone who writes back-and-forth in time books I know the key to reader satisfaction is a really tight plot line between the two segments. For me this fell a little short on that element. But well researched and good clean prose. I think she's got a really great book in her...

What I Liked: 1) Fever picked up right where Wither left off, so there was no guessing as to what may or may not have been happening in the interim. I always like that when an author picks up characters lives immediately. 2) Rhine's continued search for her brother. I'd almost forgotten about this aspect of the story, since it had been so long since I'd read Wither. But we are quickly reminded of it early on in Fever. 3) There are a lot of new places to explore in this book, as Rhine and Gabriel are on the run. They get into some scary places, that made this book darker than the first (I wasn't sure that was possible). 4) I liked how Rhine finally came to terms with the changes that had happened in the world during the year that she was at the Manor. As it says in the summary, the world really does mirror the feelings that Rhine is experiencing as she and Gabriel try to stay one step ahead of Vaughn. What I Didn't Like: I didn't connect with this book the way I did in the first one. I think it was all a matter of timing. Wither moved with a consistent pace, and new things were happening around every turn. In Fever, I felt like there was a lot of stop and start. Overall thoughts: Fever was a nice continuation of Wither. There were a few pacing issues that I thought made the storyline a bit hard to follow, but overall, Fever was well-written and took the story arc in a new and surprising direction. I'll be looking forward for the next part of Rhine and Gabriel story, particularly with the surprising end of Fever.
Interesting to me for the cultural/religious aspects, but not as good as I wanted it to be from the descriptions I read.

For some reason, I really liked this book as a little kid. It's not very good, though.

I can see a lot of potential in this author's writing. I suspect this was her first book and I think she got a little carried away with the details. The book just seemed to go on and on and on. I liked the characters and the setup for the story. I think that Jack, Ethan, and Adam were totally hot and what any woman would love to have as a mate. However there is not a man alive that is that perfect all the time. Grace is a compassionate, loving, gentle soul that has been in an abusive relationship. She just seems to get over all of that so quickly. I am not saying it isn't possible and maybe with the care and love of three strong men maybe it would be. As with the men she is a little too perfect. I also could have done without the horse porn. I know how animals breed and I don't really need a blow by blow description. Like I said at the beginning there is just way too much detail. Now if that is what you want in a book you will probably love this book. The writing and development of the story is good enough that I will probably read the other books in this series.

I was reading this book for the umpteenth time when suddenly we got in a bad car wreck. I finished the paragraph before realizing that my neck hurt quite a bit, and there was glass in my hair. So yeah, it's a pretty good book.

Read this in highschool and started my love of Fitzgerald. Many memories of that class and things that happened while reading this book. Virginia has selected it as the community read for 2007. Will need to read again this summer. Read it for a bookgroup and LOVED it all over again. The language is so well crafted. A different experience reading it as an adult.
