a university press publishing a book about a song from the turn of the 19th century set in st Louis Missouri may not sound all that exciting or compelling, but this is well researched, has good balance of revisionist and feminist viewpoints, is well and entertainingly written, and shows very well, DON'T MESS with a guy's hat. Plus it's fun to listen to all the different versions of this song.

Loved this book. Makes you want to be in NY high society sometimes.

This was the book I've been waiting for ever since the Snow Dancers and the Laurens were introduced in the series! One of the things I love about this series is how the author masterfully blends and combines all aspects of her world. I am still so curious about Kaleb and the Ghost, along with the other Councilors and Psy, and if Silence will fall or how everything will work out. Some of the things that happened during the story felt a little too unbelievable, but overall I absolutely loved it. I was excited to hear about Sascha and Luke's baby, and I also loved how you got to hear about Walker and his story. You also finally get to know Hawke and Sienna and hear about their backgrounds and understand them a little bit better. Great story and I can't wait for the next one!

I know. I didn't read them until 11th grade. I'm sorry, I didn't know. This is not the edition I would read, by the way. I prefer the boxed set with the formard from Peter S. Beagle in 1969. It has Tolkien's artwork.

Good story, poor writing.
As soon as I finished this book, I wanted to start it all over again. It has probably been compared to One Hundred Years of Solitude countless times, and I would say that is the best way to start describing this book. I loved the way the whole story seemed to be covered in a blue haze- the cold and rain and snow, the memories and time that circled around each other. This book was beautiful and delicate, but also honest, magical and raw. (How many more trite adjectives can I use?) I checked this out from the library and I almost want to go buy a copy so I can gaze at it sitting on the shelf.

this book was really great, just to see how two people can bond when there is such a year gap and someone can really just have a relationship like that is great, really is.
Overall, this book is well-written. However, the author's biases do come through. Even though she admits that ready availability of abortion is a factor in skewed sex ratios, her pro-abortion mentality prevents her from acknowledging that measures to reduce availability of abortion in general would help to decrease the problem.

Paul Pope is a badass writer and artist and I love batman. Batman Year 100 is kind of a replacement for Dark Knight Strikes Again, which Frank Miller wrote shortly after he went completely batshit insane and stopped making sense but was still getting published. This is a really good thing, it keeps this great Batman character alive in a future full of psychic NHS agents. He's fighting an evil totalitarian government regime and generally just kicking ass all over the place even though he is really old. Check out Paul's other stuff in the recent Fantastic Four Anniversary Comic as well as another (younger) Batman story in Batman: Black & White vol 2.
