I have re-read it once already. Both times when I cried my husband thought I was losing it.

not his best. quite repetitive but still worth a read
A book about finding one's self, holding to one's ground, and claiming the right (or fulfilling the responsibility) to prioritize one's own person.
In 2003 I met an amazing Filipino woman named Fe who I soon fell deeply in love with. Even though we came from very different backgrounds (her from a small fishing village in the Pacific and myself the offspring of middle-class business owners in Kentucky) we still found much in common with each other. The sky came crashing down upon us in 2009, however, when Fe, at just forty years old, was diagnosed with lung cancer. For 3 months I tended to her day and night, taking her to chemo treatments, staying up all hours of the night to give her medication, staying with her in the hospital, driving her wherever she needed to go, and eventually sitting alone in an ICU waiting room in West LA at 2am one night when the doctors came to tell me she had passed away. In this book I recount many of our greatest adventures and most tragic experiences together. I hope people can find inspiration in this story as I try to share some of the lessons I learned on our unforgettable journey. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.

I read this book and liked it a lot although I do have a crush on Anderson Cooper which could have colored my opinion.
Starting my horse on the carriage. This is the "bible" apparently. Need to read it.

As brainless and charming as any of them.

This is certainly the best analysis of ID -- and of Creationism in general -- that I've come across. Shanks has actually, as an evolutionary biologist teaching at East Tennessee State University, fought in the front lines against Creationist claptrap -- you can find his very funny essay about these experiences, "Fighting for Our Sanity in Tennessee", by googling. He brings some of that battle-hardenedness to this far more sombre work; although there could hardly help but be a few moments worth chuckling over, his intent here is deadly serious. He also manages to explain the principles of ID more clearly than any IDer I've read! I'd shyly suggest this is a very important book, and, if you care at all about trying to push back against those forces who'd like to see us enter another Dark Age of ignorance and deprivation, one you should put on your reading list.
