this is some pretty heavy literary theory so I wouldn't call it an enjoyable read but definately interesting.

This is a beautifully written story that brings an amazing sensitivity and understanding to a controversial and taboo subject. Through Lochan and Maya, Suzuma somehow manages to breach our societal defences that tells us these two teenagers' love for one another is wrong with answers as to why this has happened - they've had to raise their younger siblings from a young age and provide the parental support, have always turned to each other as equals, as partners, in the same way a mother and father would. Suzuma carefully crafts Lochan and Maya's relationships with their other siblings to illuminate the difference in the way they see each other and interact with one another. For Maya, her brother Kit is her brother Kit and as such she sees him in that respect and loves him in a motherly/sisterly protective, concerned way. Maya's brother Lochan, however, is not her brother but her best friend, her soul mate and she loves him - in her own words - in every way that is possible. This book, for me is reminiscent of Flowers in the Attic by the late Virgina Andrews - where children are forced to grow up too quickly and absorb responsibility too quickly, and how with the pressure and need for someone to love them as much as they have loved others, can outweigh what society judges as 'right' and 'wrong'. Unlike Flowers in the Attic, however, there is none of that gothic surrealism with Forbidden to detract from its raw authenticity. Suzuma lets us as the readers into the hearts of the people condemned, and even better creates two characters of such realism and painful humanity that we can't possibly judge them; we can only hurt for them under truly tragic and heartbreaking circumstances. A poignant masterpiece. I would give Forbidden ten stars if I could. Five massive, massive stars!

I hated the begining, but liked where the story took me. I'm not sure I would re-read it.

And now they do not see light, it is brilliant (Bahir) in the skies. Job 37:21. And that is what this book is; brilliant. Takes another look at the Sefirot and concepts such as the Divine Constriction. This book has a translated version in the first half and a commentary by Rab. Aryeh Kaplan in the second half. Very enlightening.

"Stuart and Revett! Stuart and Revett! Where do you always find the answers? What is the first thing you consult? Ahh yes, our dear friends, Stuart and Revett." Gotta love Lothar.
Too concise. Not as insightful as some others I read

Interesting mix of people, problems and patterns which prove if you are patient and persistent enough all good works require effort. Pleasant, enjoyable read with some happy tears.

I understand the fact that because George R.R. Martin had so much to say after "A Storm of Swords," he could not fit the story lines of every character into the fourth novel in the series. However, in my opinion, he left all of the good plot lines out of this one! No Tyrion? No Bran? No Jon? The only "fun" plot line in this book was Arya's story. Don't get me wrong: I actually liked this book, but it was a bit more work to get this one read. I hope that "Dance with Dragons" is twice as exciting because it has twice the interesting characters that this book has. An excellent effort. I will read the next book and perhaps I judged this book a bit harshly because the previous installments have been so good.
The classic juxtaposition, the small life of a farm girl transforms into a lesson of so much. A must read, definitely.

A good book. Loved the satire of American-Arab relations. However I found it hard to like the main character.
