This is yet one of my favorite novels I have had the chance to read. The writing is exquisite--it is somewhere between the archaic victorian style of early days and modern science fiction literature. This novel has a lot of vestiges from early Gothic novels; fantastic situations, ghostly or terrible events, the yearning of the idyllic, and the sublime. This is very important because Mary Shelley was able to balance both the beautiful and the sublime; it is a novel that talks about an era of scientific discovery, the imitation of god, and what are the consequences of the one that attempts to be greater than god: "Learn from me, if not by my precepts, at least by my example, how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier that man is who believes his native town to be the world, than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will allow." Chapter 4, pg. 38 It is also a beautiful novel that talks about the ostracism of a creature as Frankeinstein's monster; the creature does not have a name, and this makes it a novel much more about the "Other" rather than simple gothic horror.

Inredible! I loved this series so much and am excited that there is another book coming out...with a special surprise letter in it from Jace to Clary! Wonderful story that I'm going to love rereading over and over again.

Not her usual standard. Although I must admit I'm not a huge fan of short stories.

Sam picked out 2 romance novels for me for my bday, and this was one of them. :)
Milkweed is a story about war and refugees in the first World War. It brings us into the life of an orphan, Misha, a boy who had to survive in the streets, never having enough food to eat or water to wash himself. The war approached, forcing everyone to live in refugee camps and suffer through winter and illness. I love this book because all this is told from a child's point of view, and they never really feel any huge worries at all. Even though people all around were suffering, the childish side didn't disappear.

JUST FYI!! I had no idea these were Christian romance novels. The author was a romance writer before she became a Christian. However, her research on the historical aspect of her novels make it so worth the 'story'.

Since the other 2 people that rated this book gave it 5 stars I feel a need to defend my low rating. It's been 4 or 5 years since I read it but here are my notes: Not enough happens, the art sucks, it hasn't aged well.

Totally thrilling since my cousin Brian was Captain of Rescue 1 in Manhattan around the same time as many of the events in this book take place. These guys are the elite of the elite and pretty much invented the rescue training and tactics as they are today.
