If I ever became any kind of literature teacher, this book would wiggle onto every syllabus I ever wrote.
I think I would have found the stories to be more enjoyable if they didn't all have the theme of paranoid schizophrenia running through them. That being said, The Man Who Dealt in Elephants was very touching, if obvious; All You Zombies blew my fucking mind. I listened (audiobook version) to it three times to really wrap my poor, blown apart mind around it. Most excellent stuff in that story.

This was an interesting read, but some parts seemed to unbelievable and I felt the author stretched the realism of the story. I wouldn't recommend it to a young teen, because it talked a lot about prostitution and other related items. It just seemed a little bleak throughout the book. It got better toward the end.
Death sentences and hype aside, this is just a good book. Have fun with it.

My favorite book this year. So far. And honestly, no matter how well I write a review, my words will be lackluster compared to McLain's brilliance. Here is what I know for sure: (1) I consumed it within 3 days only because (2) I limited myself to 100 pages a day because (3) I sensed I'd be overcome with lingering sadness when the pages ran out. This fictional take on Hemingway + his first wife + PARIS! is totally consuming, other-worldly {to me}, and genius.
Elementary school aged girls will love this story about a girl growing up in a rural community without her parents. There's also a moral - you can be whatever you want to be.
This was a good clean young adult historical fiction.

I loved Meg Cabot's twist on the Persephone myth. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

im thoroughly enjoying this book. ive been reading it while im on spring break, and tc boyle is very good at exposing the reader to the perspectives of the 'invisible' people we encounter everyday, and allowing their voices, struggles, worries, to really be felt. californians (especially our socal brethren)will appreciate the images of brushfires and day laborers and gated communities...a good read that is deceptively simple but tackled very present issues. word.
