Very interesting story!

Overall I liked this collection of slipstream, interstitial short stories (certainly much more than The Jane Austen Book Club), though there were enough stories that fell flat and weren't particularly great that I'm giving this 3 stars rather than 4. The ones I did like are a great subtle blend of realism and the fantastic (somewhat similar to Kelly Link, though I enjoy Kelly Link's stories more). My favorites were the titular story "Black Glass", "the Elizabeth Complex" (which approaches the person Elizabeth as a combination of Queen Elizabeth, Elizabeth Taylor, and Lizzie Borden), "the Brew" (Culloden and magical whiskey!), and the last two stories, which both deal with aliens/other worlds in a darkly funny way.

A very important book on Al Qaeda and OBL. Bergen gives a very detailed history of the relationship among the Shia, Sunni, and the Kurds. One of his points was that, in Hussein's Iraq many communities were "integrated," Shia and Sunni families sharing the same neighborhood. He emphasized the results of US'incompetence in starting the war without understanding the ethnic/religious history and contemporary situation; allowing looting of weapons caches and labs capable of making WMD without security; and no real plan for what to do after the war overcame the Iraqi leadership. I've read lots of this by other writers and in articles by Peter Bergen but his version is much more contextualized. Besides containing so much information, Bergen's book is very readable.

I read this book when I was a senior in high school, and fell in love. I had never read anything more beautiful, or powerful in my life. It is filled with strong women, wonderful prose, and vivid descriptions. It is a must read.
Loved the book. After reading drivel for so long, I decided to pick up another Oprah find. The journey begins as the Price family naively departs rural Georgia for a religious mission in Africa and continues well into their adulthood. Father is a rabid Baptist minister intent on saving the natives from damnation, while mother tolerates his abusive behavior at home. The story continues until the family suffers a great loss. At that point, the book turns and the Price family begins it's own path towards salvation.

More Zippy! And almost as good as the first installment.

Empieza bien, tiene unos puntos de humor interesantes. Acaba cayendo en lo convencional, aunque, como es muy cortito, se le perdona.
