I'm going to stick to the sutras which give the same "advice" but are much more interesting to read. There isn't much substance to the book and you're better off just reading the chapter summaries because reading the chapters is like trudging through quicksand. It's not worth your time unless you need something to convince you of "the power of positive thinking..."

Great (true) story of three women's lives in communist China. I read this while travelling over there and it gave me a whole different take on what I was seeing. Drags a bit in the middles when Jung gets bogged down in some details, but overall a great read with fantastic cultural insight.

I have my criticisms of this series, but I thought the first three were nice, quick, light reads.
What an astonishing book! Such a seemingly mundane topic of a straitlaced butler to a Lord in England... though I should have known it would get exciting... Hello Downton Abbey! A beautifully simple premise that drew me in with such effective skill. By the time I understood what this seemingly simple man was struggling with in regards to the character of his old employer and the possible love of his life, I was effectively shocked and delighted. The story was masterfully woven and I was continually amazed at Ishiguro's profound storytelling ability. Amen to the Booker prize as well! I can depend on you!

I give this book a solid 3 stars. I have to say I usually enjoy long books because I feel like I can enjoy the story longer, and this was no exception. I loved the way it told a story of a lifetime, basically. Follett does an amazing job of developing his characters, you either love them or HATE them. I felt like there was a bit too much talk of the nave and butresses and whatnot, but i guess that's what the book is kind of about - building a cathedral. I was recommend it.
The kind of story that will touch your heart! At first, I thought I was going to read about a figure that 'change the whole world', but it turns out that Amos is just that 'ordinary' man who has an extraordinary heart. How I learn a lot from reading about how he learned to live by faith and integrity to good ideals he knew, eventhough he was just a negro under the dominance of white men. An inspiring lifestory worth reading for children and adults alike!

Holes was a fun and easy read. It was a great book to read as a group!
High school reading, filled with depth of experience, I liked it.
