It was too forgettable. As in I can't even review it well because I've already forgotten it.

I liked this way more than Maze Runner, which is always weird because usually I'm a HUGE fan of the 1st book and not so much of the 2nd. But then again I loved Catching Fire more than Hunger Games. I'm glad it didn't take to long to get into the action this time. Looking forward to the 3rd book, The Death Cure!

Love, Aubrey is another book to add to my pile of children left behind novels...and yet I enjoyed it. I had heard a lot of very complimentary things about this novel before I read it and so I was expecting a lot. I really wasn't all that sure what to think about it as I started reading. I was piecing together the story well before elements were confirmed and yet I was in the present with Aubrey. This could just be a story about grief, instead it's about being left behind, and all that that means. The eleven year old protagonist is not someone I would normally want to read about. She's mourning her family - how it once was, what it isn't now. She's barely keeping her head above the waters swirling with grief, depression, anger and need. What surprised me is how removed I felt and how much emotion I felt. I am contradicting myself I know, but that's how I felt. The anger I felt towards Elizabeth is overwhelming, I understand on a base level that her depression overrode her daughter's needs but I didn't care. She left her child alone. The last remaining member of her immediate family and she just up and left her. How dare she? While Aubrey's being difficult with her grandmother, befriending Bridget or missing Savannah - I didn't really connect. But it took one letter to her father to break me. I find it interesting that the one member of the family, the one mentioned the least, could elicit so much emotion from me. It was then I realised how beautifully crafted this novel is. Each word is deliberate. LaFleur's words are delicately placed creating a whirlwind of contrasting emotions that race through you, leaving an emotional wreck behind. It is a stunning debut effort, one that I am reluctant to quantify because I cannot place why it is so good. Perhaps it's the use of simple language which leaves you feeling sparse? Maybe it's the number of emotions, conclusions and thoughts that aren't ever directly stated? Maybe it's both. Regardless, this book is a revelation and the start to a very promising career for Suzanne LaFleur.

The best part of this book is that it's a quick and easy reference manual. I particularly liked the charts and lists of pregnancy ailments. That's helpful - especially when you're suffering from one of them and couldn't find it easily in any other pregnancy book! It's not the week-to-week variety type of book, but still very useful for a quick overview and refresher course!

I remember beginning to read Daughter of Fortune several years ago but for some reason put it aside and never finished it. How I was able to do that so easily, I will never know because the second time around this book ended up being difficult to put down. Isabel Allende has created a very engaging and well-rounded character in Eliza Sommers. I found the most endearing thing about Eliza was her stubborness and her imperfections. Often that is what will draw me to a character because it makes them real, and I found Eliza couldn't be more real if she had even stepped off the page. Every character that Eliza encountered helped to enrich her life and each one added more to the story that kept you reading, but obviously the one you bonded to the most was the one who held a story of his own: Tao Chi'en. The bond those two created could drive you crazy and was really kept me reading until the very end. Without giving anything away I'll finish off by saying this book is written like Eliza has developed: raw and real. Allende is not afraid to stray from the "Hollywood" style of story telling, with everything working out as it should or the way the reader wants it to end. There are bumps and blips throughout the story that will drive you true-heart romantics out of your mind, but those of us who crave a certain reality in our stories will love it. In the end this story will make you feel good, even better than your typical "feel good" book because you feel like you can tell yourself, this is real... maybe it really did happen...

I loved this series and had a hard time putting each book down, although The Hunger Games was my favorite. I loved the characters and the relationships built between them all. It was disturbing yet always hopeful. The ending wasn't what I expected, but after digesting it all I thought it was a great ending. I'm sorry it's over!

I avoided this book for a long while because it seemed a bit "romancey" to me. I ended up packing it for a trip, and became thoroughly engrossed - loved the aging chicago hipster protagonist! I found it to be a quick and enjoyable read (that spiraled slightly into awful sentiment at the end, but I was able to forgive it that).

Bean (7yo) loved the entire series. Read them all and then created dramas with her friends using the characters. Her brother (5yo) enjoyed them also.
