If you read one book based on my recommendations, make it this one. The story is about an elderly man in a nursing home remembering back on his life as a circus veterinarian. It's full of romance and high drama and circus animals. The characters are fascinating and the story is compelling and I couldn't put it down.

First I love the cover of this book! I also was so thrilled to read this book after reading the blurb! Lisa's writing is simply smashing. I read this chick lit summer romance in one sitting. I had to find out how things turned out for Ralph and Jem. I think Lisa did an awesome job with Ralph and I liked getting a look into his thoughts. I did think that some of the choices that Ralph and Jem made were not the best. But I guess that makes things more interesting. This is a very witty story that does contain some language and some sex (not detailed) while not married. The only problem I had with this story is that things were resolved a little to quickly for me. This was my first book by Lisa and I did not know that it was a sequel to Ralph's Party. I had no problem reading and following this story, so it is a great stand alone read, but I may have to pick up the prequel Ralph's Party. I do recommend this to those who like romance and chick lit.

I loved Eragon, but this one was a little slow. I still enjoyed it, but not as much as the first one. It got too "Lords of the Ring" for me - all wars and no clear reason why. I preferred the first book in the series, when it was more focused on Eragon and his relationship with Sapphira. It is supposedly a book about dragons, right? Not wars. Why do guys like to write about war anyway?

I really liked this book! I was in the mood for a time-travel and a hot Scot, both of which this book had. I had heard good things about Melissa Mayhue, all of which were true IMO. I was only disappointed that I had not read the previous six books in this series before this one (not just sayin', there was too much I'd missed out on from previous books to understand this one like I should have). TT-type books are usually either going back or going forward, and I think both happen in this series; these books aren't truly stand-alones. Leah had already gone back in time when this story started in 1293. She is happy and well-adjusted after being there for about 10 yrs,.until the first-born son of the Laird of MacQuarrie Keep returns from England (England = bad back then) and imprisons his father and tells Leah he has betrothed her to Lord Moreland who, of course, is a mean, old and fat man who wants Leah for a broodmare (he needs an heir before he dies or his estate passes to his nephew). Leah takes off to beg for help from her (mother's?) descendants at Dun Ard. She really, really wishes there was someone else to assist her because Leah hates the Fae with all her might and her far-distant (or farin the past, actually) relations are their long-ago desendants. You can probably guess what happens next because the story is fairly predictable. But its fun! I liked Leah and her savior, Drew. I liked her family and his. I even somewhat liked Lord M's nephew. There were puppies. I mean, what's not to like, right? So I now have a new series to read (yea!) - but not too quickly so I don't get tired of it since "historicals" aren't usually my thing. I am now just like so many of my GR buds, a Ms. Mayhue cheerleader! So Cheers!

I have an autographed copy. Nate and I went to see him at the PAC where I used to work, and then stuck around for book signing. After a long long long line we finally got up there and I told him who I was and that I worked there and he thanked me for working so hard to get the show sold and for doing a great job. EEEE!! He even signed my book "Thank you for getting all these people here." And THEN I just found out that, after the signing, he was walking back to the dressing room with a co-worker and he told her that I was very nice and he liked me and he had written my name in his diary! Eee!

Crime thrillers can quickly become overly repetitive as well as predictable, since they almost always feature a serial killer of some sort, and a detective, ex-military or journalist on their trail. Sometimes it's personal, sometimes not - either way, at the end of the day, what keeps me coming back is a new fresh twist on the old formula. Which is why I was delighted to stumble upon Halfhead - an action packed crime thriller set in the near future - thus many giving it the sci-fi tag in the process. Sure, it's nothing groundbreaking, but if you've had enough of the usual serial killer story lines and like your bit of sci-fi mixed with brutal action and graphic violence, strong characters and a cracking story, then I don't see how anyone will like this any less than I did. I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. In fact, I was sad it ended. A sequel would be much appreciated, however, the author's publishers have him tied to releasing more of his bestselling crime series than venturing into new grounds, as was the case with this novel.

Everyone had been raving on about this book so much that I felt I had to read it, if only to find out what all the fuss was about. To be honest having now read it I am none the wiser. It was very poorly written, the plot was predictable and the characters were annoying in their stupidity. What really started to annoy me was how characters kept turning up at places just a minute too late, just a minute too late to save someone...just a minute too late to catch someone.... I'm afraid I didn't learn my lesson and I went on to read Angels and Demons which it turned out was exactly the same! I know some people really enjoyed this book and I suppose it's all about personal choice but I hope I never have to read another Dan Brown book as long as I live.

At first I was hesitant to read What is the What, but once I began it was exceedingly difficult to stop. Genocide is not necessarily something that I can casually read about, thus my initial reluctance. But Dave Eggers and Valentino Achak Deng deliver a breath taking novel that incorporates the unimaginable attrocities of military/political/religious/territorial/ethnic violence into a beautiful biography. During and after reading this, I took a much needed critical look at my own American privelege taken for granted.
