Hard book to review. Loved the format the book was written,I got a kick out of "Mattie Spenser's thoughts and personality" loved the first half of the book. Though it may have portrayed frontier life, it was a little "much" to stomach. If you choose to read it, have a brown paper sack and some tissues.

So much has been written about this book that my two cents worth won't make you read/not read it. It's funny to think that it was once one of the most banned books since it really is not that hectic, but it's still one of the books on all classic love story lists. Highly recommended.

Who doesn't love the story of how Lucivar and Marian met? C'mon.

An easy, unchallenging, simple read. Nice enough, but really not very much to get your teeth into, so I'm still at a loss as to why it's so famous.
Couldn't finish...need I say more?
Loved it. Great family drama, intelligent observations and beautifully written.

"I never asked to be born" says a character in The Blind Assassin, and is promptly corrected. I wonder if Margaret Atwood was thinking of Erewhon. Members of Erewhonian society are all obliged to sign a document at birth admitting that they have chosen to be born of their own free will, and obliging them to indemnify their parents for any trouble it may cause them. Other appealing ideas are the inverted treatment of crime and physical illness: if you embezzle money, you're given medical treatment, but anyone foolish enough to contract pneumonia is sent to jail. It's still a fun read!

I DON't KNOW HOW SHE DOES IT by Allison Pearson is one of the funniest books I've read. It still stays with me years later. I THINK I LOVE YOU didn't have the same humor but it was sweet and the end was quite touching.

Started reading "Our Oriental Heritage." I am very interested in Durant's section on how civilization evolved. Making connections to present day in how the same problems and pitfalls that brought down empires and states are bringing down the world economy. Cliche here, history repeats itself. Man has stepped away from the communal and towards the individual and that's when the shit hit the fan. It's unreal how my mind is making references. Read over a 100 pages with delight. The study of history is invaluable. I read Durant's "Lessons of History" a few years ago and liked the broad perspective he presented on the conflicts that have transpired throughout history. I intend to read all 11 volumes, every word. I am on a great path of discovery.

Not the best writing ever, but Gillies is not a writer by trade. She is, in fact, the actress who plays Detective Stabler's wife on Law and Order:SVU. I picked up this book because I'm a fan of the show and about to get married, and thus reading lots of things about marriage. Again, while the writing is not technically fabulous, Gillies describes her thoughts, feelings, and surroundings in a really evocative way. This book is a fascinating look at a marriage falling apart. I really enjoyed it.
