Malamud's prose is elegant and evocative, and made this novel a pleasure to read. So different from the film! Roy Hobbs is larger than life, and not just in the way he swings the bat; his story is a charming, if occasionally repugnant, fable that doesn't turn a blind eye to human nature. The characters are well-drawn and familiar types, and the plot rushes you along like the ghostly train of Roy's nightmares. It was hard to put down. Thanks, Elizabeth!!

Fascinating idea. Half monster, half horse, the water horses that wash ashore in the fall on an island near England. There were parts that were kind of gruesome, and it was kind of a dark story, but it sucks you right in.

It was a free download. Hard to get through in places and had a weird ending...I guess the author just wants you to buy her other books. There were quite a few typos.. I would read the other books if they were also free.

I think I'm the only person on the planet who really didn't like this book. It was so tedious and unrewarding. The temporary redemption and interest was the love story of Lefty and Desdemona. I left it midway and never looked back.

My favorite line in the book - "the state of your heart is the state of your home." This is a wonderfully funny, easy to read with only 5 minute chapters books, that reminds you about all the good stuff and how to pour it in when they are little.

Got about a third of the way through. Good book, very interesting, but so dense that unless I had time to spend 45 uninterrupted minutes on a chapter (which had no breaks or ways in which I could put it down between chapters and come back to it without having to start from the beginning of the chapter) to actually finish the chapter, I would lose my place.
