** spoiler alert ** Really nice art from the 90s, but seriously this is on of DeFalco's low points as a writer. It's not the FF you want, believe me. Better to spend your time with just about ANY FF story than this one, unless you really enjoy Reed being "dead," Johnny being a crybaby, etc.

Won an ARC from her "get unplugged" contest. I honestly have to say I was a bit disappointed with this one. Too much inner monologue and preaching, it got boring after a while. A lot of readers pointed out that this was one of Justin's flaws in Awaken (I didn't mind so much, because I really liked Awaken), so I would have thought the author already fixed her tendencies to over-ruminate. Katie Kacvinsky really needs to understand more the writing concept of showing, not telling. On a more positive note, Maddie kicked some serious ass in this book. Hopefully, the last book will be better and more memorable than Middle Ground, because this is a really interesting series that I think paints a realistic picture on what life could be like a hundred years from now.

A very well-written account of the New Frontier politicians and Cold Warriors that pulled through Cuba, waged war on poverty, and ultimately bogged down in Vietnam. The portrayal of LBJ is especially effective.

El estilo de este autor, sencillo y plácido aunque con una narración hacia atrás en el tiempo muy curiosa, en esta novela se centra en la relación entre hermanos con todo lo que eso implica. Muy recomendable

Unnamed British youth, having completed his education, slouches about his bedroom, believing the world has nothing to offer him, and everything is pointless anyway. Roused by his parents to do something he hitchhikes to an unnamed totalitarian eastern European country where the government and outlawed opposition seem to wish to outdo each other in brutality. Our 'hero' eventually falls in with a third non-violent intellectual group, based around a philosophical book written by their leader, 'A Society of Others', a book within a book. Through a number of dramatic and often violent encounters our British traveller 'finds himself' and learns the meaning of love, human values, etc. The book sometimes has a dream-like quality, as if he is developing from slouching nihilist to caring human being through dreams rather than real events; it is somewhat surrealistic. However the transformation is too sudden and trite to be believable; a deep subject covered in a superficial manner. Enjoyable, interesting and thought provoking enough when reading it, but it left no lasting impression.
I was making great strides with my fourth?... fifth? attempt at War & Peace. But then Christmas came around and I received four new books, and Tolstoy's on hold again. Planning on getting back to it before I forget details.
I was a First Reads Giveaway Winner for this book and I'm grateful because I really enjoyed reading it and learning more about Bhutan, "the happiest place on earth". It's a wonderful memoir of Lisa Napoli's experiences there. I just wish there were pictures since it sounds like such a beautiful place with wonderful people. I could picture this as a sitcom, girl from Brooklyn winds up in a developing country, surrounded by youth fascinated with US Culture. If you enjoy reading memoirs or learning about other places and cultures I would recommend you read this book.

The book on tape that just wouldn't die...maybe I would have liked it more if I had read not listened to it. I can still hear the little ding-ding-ding echo of each interlude. It did finally get interesting with the influenza outbreak - I like historical fiction and epidemeology.

Love this book! Read it to my son, and he just adores it! He would have me read it over and over if he could. The ryhming makes the story flow easily, and the pictures depict the story well. All kids can relate to being dragged around running errands so mom can go shopping. A must read!
