One of my favorite Shakespeare plays. I mostly just wanted to comment on this printed version of the book-- the "No Fear Shakespeare" books are probably the easiest I've ever read without watering it down so much that you lose the poetry and wit in his writing. And, if all else fails, there's always the original text on the other side of the page...

A.H.W.O.S.G. the author himself calls this wild memoir in footnoted to within an inch of it's bombastically creative live...a must, must read! If I tell you anything else I'll ruin the reality and unreality of it all! Be sure to read everything including the preface and the Rules and Suggestions for Enjoyment of This Book."

Another of my favorite books. This one really made me a Rita Mae Brown fan. Great characters make you laugh out loud while you're reading. (date is way off)

interesting, but I was sad to see that BYU was not included on the list. I was happy to see that Ohio Wesleyan was, where my fil taught many years ago. Also on the list is Earhlam college where my sil graduated from.

2.5 stars I like Winterson's style, and will try something else by her. Parts of this book are fantastic (2/3). Other parts are convoluted and dull (1/3). I don't care for the fairy tale parallels. What this book needed was a bit more of a demanding editor sitting on her shoulder, forcing her to cohere. There are flashes of brilliance every so often, though. So I'll look to Winterson's later works to see how she handles herself.

This book was great! I really loved the characters. They were so funny and loveable. The only thing that made me not give it a 5 stars was that it was confusing when they were talking about both characters, beacause this book was put into two point of views.

Time: 11:39. Look at that, it's actually before midnight! Okay SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!! One: It is nasty that Max slept with Elena and Erica. Siblings with the same man? No. Just no. Two: Can't think of two, but I know there was one. Jeez, I'm 18! One would think I would have a better memory than this. Unfortunately, I only remember the story, not what bugged me about the story. And really, he's known her for how long? Less than 24 hours, he says it himself. That is not love, it is lust. Love takes time. Chemistry doesn't. Maybe I'm just getting tired of all these books where they meet, fall is LUST, have monkey sex all over the place, and get married in two weeks. That's not what real life is. Of course, one could argue that we read to escape from life, to let our imaginations free, etc. Maybe that was number two. Lust vs. love. It doesn't feel right in my head, but I will drop it for now. 3 stars.

It's true that what we hate in others is what we hate in ourselves. The narrator experiences this, and so does the reader. This book gets 5 stars because it is not only poignant, it is also funny. And most of all it is still relevant.
Lovely book that takes you to the different time space reality.

Ahhh...another book set in a warm climate. Marika is a war journalist who after being kidnapped (and escaping) decides to write a book about another war journalist (Robert Lewis). It is believed that he committed suicide. Robert's sister shows Marika a letter written by a missionary who believes that he saw Robert alive and in Papua New Guinea. Marika travels to New Guinea to find the journalist. I liked the adventure parts of this book. It was interesting to read about her travels across New Guinea. There are also parts of this book that are kind of like a "luv" story because Marika falls in luv with Seb, a psychologist---he lives in Boston, not New Guinea. It is quite convenient that she falls in luv with him because she is slightly messed up...and he is perfect (yeah, right, a perfect man, ha, ha) Some of the story is kind of tough (not just the luv parts) because she describes some of the torture/war that she has seen. The book is written by a journalist from National Geographic who has hiked through New Guinea and traveled to all continents alone, so I imagine she has really seen most of what she wrote about.
