This book gave an interesting overview of Pollan's take on the American food industry. Pollan definitely has his biases. However, they're pretty clearly stated and you know what he thinks. Pollan isn't going to tell you to not eat meat in this book. Well, he might indicate you shouldn't eat a certain type of meat and thus if you don't have access to a local far (or you're not well off enough) the implication would be that you should eat a primarily veggie/vegan diet. Pollan never really states this in his book. I'd say this book is more about him struggling with his desire to still eat meat and be an ethical human. I'm ok with it and enjoyed the book for the information presented, but it might not be for everyone. Warning If you're an animal right's activist or vegan/veggie for moral reasons, you're probably not going to like this book. He spends quite a bit of time talking about eating meat. Allow me to summarize the part of the book you care about here: Corn it's in everything we eat (well everything processed). Also mushrooms are tasty and you can hunt for them on your own. Oh but be careful, if you eat a bad one you might die. Ok now my veggie/vegan friends don't have to read the book. Personally, I found the discussion about industrial meat the most disturbing. Since I grew up in a hunting family, I spent a little time snickering at some of the descriptions but wasn't at all disturbed.
