Half way through and loving it. Had to put down "A Passage to India." Will save that for another time,. . . another time. I've finished!! Surprises around every corner. I kept imaging how Egan might have kept track of the characters, the various periods in their lives, and the connections they had with one another. I would have liked to have that spreadsheet (or diagram or story board). Young and vibrant. Unpredictable. Futuristic ending. How creative!!

3,5 stars. kinda confused at first, but then it's quite interesting :) many names to be memorized here. lol Ashwini is a hunter and Janvier is a vampire that I suppose he's one of the hottest vampire at there. And they kinda have a "relationship" that brings more stories about themselves. It's quite cool here since vampires can't do much because the one who has the highest, greatest and most powerful is archangel. ^^ thanks to my auntie, Ren who recommended me this Guild Hunter series :D love ya mwah mwah mwah

Seriously overrated.

This book was sappy and predictable. I feel like my Mom's book club would read this book and probably enjoy it, and that is why I found it painful to finish. The novel contains short stories about one man's life, each story telling a different life lesson about some broad theme such as "treating everyone with kindness" and "Love your parents". This book is the Oprah-fied, overexaggerated, mid-life-crisis guide to learning life lessons through a short novel about aproaching life and death. Quite frankly, its just too damn cheesy.

It took a little while for me to get into this book, but it was pretty good. I read it just after The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, which does a much better job of drawing you into the narrator's problems.
Funny and intelligent, as well as a quick read. The section about the flaky new-age failed rehabilitation of psychopaths was pretty disturbing to me (and reminded me of the movie The Men Who Stare at Goats; I haven't read the book so I am not sure if it is a recurring Jon Ronson theme or what), but Mr Ronson's hypochondria and amygdala, and the high-Hare tycoon who casts all of his own psychopathic tendencies in a positive light made me laugh out loud.

I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I liked it do much that I just read "The Forgotten Hours" by her.

I felt that this book missed the 'magic' of the original WMBH. Kunstler is a strong, clear writer, and this book was pretty good, but no where near my top 10 list which includes WMBH. Others reviewing this book did not like the mysticism included in the book, but I thought it added to the story (sort of like in The Stand). The pace of the story was good, and with several different story lines that converge at the end of the book, Kustler was able to create chapter-end cliff-hangers that kept me up too late. Worth reading, but I’d be bummed if I spent money on it.
Not to be read by those with a shaky testimony. Written by an LDS author, his take on the afterlife is a grim view but one to which I'm sure many people can relate. He questions how we can be truly happy when we are not with those we dearly love.
