Author: Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler Pages: 356 Publisher: Razorbill Publication: November 21st 2011 Age Group: Young Adult (12-18) Book Source: Purchased Challenge(s)- TBR Challenge(2012) It's 1996, and Josh and Emma have been neighbors their whole lives. They've been best friends almost as long - at least, up until last November, when Josh did something that changed everything. Things have been weird between them ever since, but when Josh's family gets a free AOL CD in the mail, his mom makes him bring it over so that Emma can install it on her new computer. When they sign on, they're automatically logged onto their Facebook pages. But Facebook hasn't been invented yet. And they're looking at themselves fifteen years in the future. By refreshing their pages, they learn that making different decisions now will affect the outcome of their lives later. And as they grapple with the ups and downs of what their futures hold, they're forced to confront what they're doing right - and wrong - in the present. *** Goodreads Summary To be honest- I thought it was rushed. This entire novel happens in about five days- but it was perfectly balanced with background information- although some times as reading it you would get confused- like- you thought this was this but it is actually that and then it actually wasn't that- by the time you figured it out it had already been changed. In certain ways it was alike 13 Reasons Why- for underlying themes. In 13RW- assuming we can all agree that 13RW is about how everyone effects everyone else- whether it be positive or a negative way. As for Hannah it was usually a negative way- considering there were "13 Reasons Why" she killed herself. Something to add about 13RW - that I think is kinda cool- on halloween at our school we had to dress up as a favorite book character and present them as we think they would be in the real world. I dressed up as Hannah Baker (vintage-y clothing)- and tried to embrace her character- in our skit was the main characters from CUT by Patricia McCormick, the dead girl form WINTERGIRLS- Laurie Halse Anderson, and Mara Dyer from the UNBECOMING OF MARA DYER- lets just say this skit was rather depressingly awesome. Wouldn't it be great to see how Katniss and Bella Swan would get along (or not!). ANYWAY, back to the subject at hand. So 13RW was about how our choices affect other people. In this book it is about how our choices effect the future. So when Josh and Emma start stalking their own Facebook pages- and learning about they're future- when Emma learns she is super unhappy- she keeps making choice on purpose to change her "unfortunate" future. Of course Josh thinks its dangerous- cause he loves his future- soon everything they do is about their future. The ending was cute- super cute. Also the romance was super obvious(ish)- but I really liked it. I applaud you once again Jay Asher & Carolyn Mackler- I wonder what you have in store for us next... “How can you call it love when it hurt you so badly?" "It was love because it was worth it.” ― Jay Asher, The Future of Us “And what if in the future we're at war again, or we still haven't elected a non-white or non-male president, or the Rolling Stones are still dragging their tired old butts on stage? That would depress me way too much.” ― Jay Asher, The Future of Us “Why does it say she has three hundred and twenty friends?" Josh asks. "Who has that many friends?” ― Jay Asher, The Future of Us

Wasn't incredibly heart-wrenching, but is a good book to spark discussion.
hee!
Only 2 biscotti recipes in the entire book which resulted in my fair rating as I expected at least half of the book to be devoted to biscotti. The recipes don't seem overly complicated but I'm not entirely inspired to make most of them either.

I liked it as a portrait of the landscape of the desert and man's relationship with nature. His prose I found very readable and very visual. His writing is full of contradictions and internal conflict, but aren't we all?

So Bloodlines takes place after the Vampire Academy series has ended and pretty much takes all the cool supporting characters from the Vampire Academy series and makes them main characters, like Sydney, Adrian, Eddie, and Jill. Bloodlines is told from Sydney's point of view. This is awesome because it answers a lot of questions about the Alchemists. Blood lines begins with Sydney at home and she is still in trouble from helping Rose. Eventually, she is assigned to be Jill's "sister" at a boarding school in Palm Springs, California. Jill is hiding out because there are Moroi assassins that want to kill her. In short the story, is about everyone laying low at an elite boarding school which anyone who has ever been to high school knows is impossible. There is also a secret tattoo business that is taking place within the school. Special tattoos give special powers or effects. There is some backstabbing, some romance, and of course some betrayal. All in all it was an excellent read and I can not wait to get my hands on the next book.

A fascinating, almost operatic book set in a fantastic world where nothing is supposed to change: the huge, decaying, ultimately unknowable castle of Gormenghast. There, the traditions of the House of Groan are worshipfully followed by a cast of characters whose minds and desires are quite human, even though their bodies, exaggeratedly expressive, often verge on the grotesque. A beautiful tale of the fight between great, statuesque Stasis and the small, clever hobgoblin of Change.

I would love to give this as a gift to my therapist.
It's been a long time since I read the first two books, but I was surprised how much I remembered and fell right back into the story. I loved this book (and the series). Strong, courageous heroine who realizes life is hard, but moves forward anyway. Heart-breaking at times, but was smiling in the end.

Kit's Wilderness left me with a dark, anxious, and insecure feeling as if I were wandering in a bleak and barren moonlit forest in December. Young Kit Watson moves back to his family's home-town to help care for his grandfather after his grandmother's death. Needing friends, he is drawn to accept an invitation to play the game of "death" by a collection of kids in the town. The game opens his mind to the realm of his dead ancestors who once mined in the town and filling his mind with visitations of creepy, strange ghost-children of the past. Kit supposedly uses his visions of the past and his writing skills to help shape and discover the light in his friend John Askew, but while forcing myself through this book, I never felt like there was actually a plot. Most pages felt like scene descriptions of empty and lonely places. This book just made me feel gloomy and dark. I do not think any young adult would enjoy this book; any awards it has won were clearly bestowed by adults.
