took way longer than previous volumes to finish ... some of the stories just didn't grab me, also heard some things about Freeman Dyson that made me wonder if our worldviews are compatible. faves: The Monkey and the Fish - Philip Gourevitch, Hearth Surgery - Burkhard Bilger, Darwin's First Clues - David Quammen, All You Can Eat - Jim Carrier, The Sixth Extinction? - Elizabeth Kolbert note: gift from Alice and Bennett, inscribed "to the ever-lovingest daughter in law we could ask for"

Listening to this audio book, I kept thinking that was a younger version of "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing." The story has the sibling rivalry aspect of that book, but it doesn't necessarily deal with some of the more mature subject matter of the book. The story is told in alternating chapters by the older sister and younger brother in the family. The title comes from the fact that each incident centers around a weekend event for the two characters. It's light, amusing fun.
has very nice quotes to use for a talk
Read it so quickly, had to read it again to see what I had missed.
It was a fun, quick read. Not the best book ever, but I enjoyed it.

I did not think Jake and Roan’s story could get any better but Tara Lain pulled it off. With the introduction of Emmaline, the author opened the door to showing how true love isn’t always “Adam & Eve”, sometimes there’s even a “Roan”. There were many heart-warming moments and real life situations in this story that gave the characters a realistic feel and had you rooting for this couple of three. I look forward to reading more books by Tara Lain. She has such a wonderfully sensual way of presenting her “beautiful boys” and creating a story that you don't want to end. Live with passion, Dr. Charley Ferrer

This is not a book that you think a non-fantasy baseball playing non-sports nut would like; I've only followed baseball for a year, and I still have a hard time remembering which teams are in the National League and which are in the American, let alone being able to understand what would drive someone to absorb so many numbers about so many players in order to play a game. Okay, coming from a man who is currently reading a rule-book for mass combat in a role-playing game he knows he will never play, perhaps "not able to understand" is a bit of a stretch, but my point is still valid. Wait, I haven't made my point yet. My point is that I'm loving this book even though I know little about baseball and nothing about fantasy baseball. Walker is a great writer and keeps the book moving along with a light, very witty touch.

This is a great story, a fictionalized account of an event in Emily Dickinson's life that tells a bit about the reclusive poet. The illustrations are beautiful and follow the fairly typical Victorian style that Barbara Cooney seemed to favor.
