This is my mom's favorite book and one I've always wanted to read. I tried a few times in the past, but couldn't get aroun the language, but this time I'm glad I was patient. It's a beautiful story with unforgettable characters and something I will read over and over.

Horatio, from what I can gather, rivaled Mark Twain in popularity but faded quickly for his lack of talent. This particular story is poorly constructed and the characterization is non-existant, but Horatio gets points for trying.

Five stars for the fantastic cover & feel of the book in my hands! I smiled every time I pulled it off of the shelf to tackle a puzzle, and it was the perfect size to stuff in my carry-on bag when flying. One star for the itty-bitty text and teeny weeny squares. Although now that I need progressive lenses, I was able to do these without wearing my glasses :> Four stars for the variety, although I have to admit that the "Hard" puzzles were impossible for me to complete. Three stars for the inconsistency among the levels. Some "Medium" puzzles were perfect --very challenging, but doable -- but in my opinion, some of them really should have been categorized as "Hard" or even "F-ing impossible." Five stars for the inspiration....I bought this at a local children's bookstore (they have a great little section for adults) even though I've never been a big fan of NY Times crosswords. (Why? Because sometimes they try too hard to be witty, and the clues don't identify how many words are in each answer like the crosswords I grew up doing.) Anyway, the book spoke to me, so I thought I'd give it a go. I got so hooked that I bought 3 more like it (same size, fun covers, easy-to-hard) at the Border's going-out-of-business sale! I also bought one of just medium-level puzzles, and now that I'm almost done with it, I recognize that the medium puzzles are officially my forte. (Even though I still have to look at the answers in the back on occasion!)

This is a fun fantasy-adventure story for young adults. Thirteen-year-old Nita hides out in the library from bullies. She finds a career guide called So You Want to Be a Wizard? and it opens up new worlds (literally) to her and her new friend Kit (a boy who is a year younger than Nita and found his copy in a used book shop). Bad Things are happening, and it will be up to Nita and Kit to save the world. After listening to the audiobook of this, I immediately got the next one in the series.
