Perfect for young girls in the 8-12 age range-- I have recommended it incessantly to kid cousins and children for whom I babysit, and it has never yet been a miss. :)

Isherwood's finest and most elegant work.
I finished the last few stories in this while laid up in bed with an injured back and a headcold. I really enjoyed it -- so many touching stories, some made me laugh, some cry, all of them strengtened my resolve to be successful in nursing school. An aspiring nurse simply can't read this without being inspiried. It's also heartwarming to know that for every story told here, there are so many more just like them that go untold. Little nurses doing great things.

Just finished this short and wonderful memoir of Buechner's early days. He chronicles the sounds and words of his life - the simple memories that slowly pushed and pulled him towards the mystery of faith in his late twenties. He captures the tragedies of his early life and the small beauties that were found in there as well. He shares with us his heart and his journey and makes us think that we are not alone. He writes, "Listen. Your life is happening. You are happening. You back on your journey. The music of your life..." All of our lives are telling a story and we are all on a journey. Let us all pause and listen to that journey and story.

Was not planning to read this (my wife did), but I listen to Amy Dickinson on Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me. I liked this more than most two star books. But it was not that good. But an interesting memoir.

4.75 stars. This book was extremely well-crafted, full of interesting characters, strong metaphors, and vivid writing. I especially like Margaret's and Irma's no nonsense approach to life and death. It made me ponder about how "broken" can sometimes be a good thing. The importance of loving those around you, rather than wishing for what was or what might have been,is a strong theme throughout the story. A++, Highly recommended, I really enjoyed it.
Preschoolers of all ages love this book! I read it over and over and over to them.
Someday I'm going to read this book. Someday.
Much better second-half. Less action this time but more development within the plot. Overall good read but recommend waiting to read this one shortly before next year's final part in the series is released. I wonder after finishing it if the intent was to create an elongated series or if the publishers pushed the books out. A lot of the action in the last book would have worked well blended more with this one. Of course when selling to a YA audience you have to think about who's buying and the willingness to read. Taking a big chance in the realm of Harry Potter can be a bit overbearing; thus, smaller first parts and then keep within roughly 100 pgs of the first book's length. (view spoiler)
