This book kept me up late listening to it and gave me some pretty weird dream while I was sleeping. Some parts were very intense and engaging (which are things I love in a book!) Other parts, however, were shamefully gross. As for the novelty of "enhancing" a real man's story with sensational-fiction, I though they did a decient job of respecting Abraham Lincoln right up to the last chapter. I was not satisfied with Abe's ultimate fate. Final score= -1 for stupid, pointless violent descriptions and an overused concept of "good vampires" and -1 for (*spoiler alert*) condemning Abe to the life of a killer for the rest of his earthly existence. Edit: I've listened to this book about 4 times so far, so I think it's time for an upgrade to four stars. Edit: The above review is based on the audio book version. I just bought the hardcover book today and it includes these really awful photoshopped pictures that really detract from the quality of the work. The audio does such a great job of blending history and fiction and creating an atmosphere where you feel like you're reading an actual biography and you get curious about what his life wad actually like and the kind of struggles the real Abraham Lincoln went through. The pics are of such a poor quality they take that away Like, I kinda guessed that Abraham Lincoln didn't really meet Edgar Allan Poe, I don't need an obviously fake picture to confirm that for me. It's like, "Oh now I see how this version of the story could have inspired that awful movie." The hardcover gets three stars, the audiobook gets four.

Yet another children's fantasy book!!! I borrowed this book from work and it was the sequel to the first one, the alchemyst. i couldn't borrow the first one b/c we didn't have the hardcover edition and we are only allowed to borrow hard covers. But, I loved it so much I bought the first book to read it. Its filed under teen fiction, but really its adult escapism. Its quite humorous as famous alchemysts, magicians, politicians, bascially anyone famous from the age of enlightenment is in this book. You have Dr. John Dee and Machiavelli (the bad guys) and Nicholas Flamel and his wife Perenelle, the Comte de St. Germain, his wife Joan of Arc... They are all immortals by virtue of gift, or because they know a special spell to keep themselves alive. The ones who were given a gift are usually in debt to an "Elder" a member of one of the ancient races that predate mankind, usually a mythological creature/god you may have heard of in folklore that now apparantly exist in various shadowrealms that border this earth in special spots. there are two special humani (humans) in this book, twins, a brother and sister who are the supposed twins of legend, and they are chasing after john dee and machiavelli to suppress the bad guys from taking over the world. Its a fun, magical book that I read in 2 days and kept me quite entertained. The author, Michael Scott is Irish, and I quite like writers from Ireland and the British Isles. I think Mr. Scott is quite talented, and I am looking forward to reading his third book, "The Sorceress" when that comes out, hopefully soon!
