My 6-year old picks this one up. It has short five stories, easy to read for a first-grader. My daughter enjoys it a lot as it has a dinosaur theme.

This was the very interesting story about the first man to cross the United States in an automobile. It was amazing to hear about just how challenging an undertaking that was back in the first decade of the 1900s. Cars were a lot different back then and so were the roads (or lack of roads) to drive them on! I listened to this as an audiobook and was quite dismayed with Ken Burns reading style. It was extremely wooden and over dramatic. They should have had someone else read it. I did, however, enjoy the music sprinkled throughout.

** spoiler alert ** I was a little disappointed with this book. The writing was excellent but the back cover gave the impression that it was a ghost story. It was but not in the general sense. I was hoping to read something that would literally scare me. It was a story of haunted people.

I didn't think I was going to like this book when I started it. The cheesy frame story, Sebastian and his teddy bear, college students with servants. It was all too much at first, but I really got into it by the end. It reminded me of Gormenghast, in that there were lots of grotesque characters who were initially repulsive to me, but who I ended up loving. I'm definitely going to read more of Waugh's novels.
