I think this book taught me alot about what spirituality can be for someone. I love the way the book related energy and spirituality between people and how it affects one another. Good descirptions of the imagery in the book but not a great read.

Boyle paints a picture against extreme animal rights action. Well, I think it's more a picture of naivety and arrogance. Science won for me in this novel, because I could never get behind the asshole that headed the animal rights group and was plotting against the park service. Invasive species are no joke. TC Boyle isn't either.
I opened this book, slightly reluctant to read it, thinking I would find another American "doing good" in the Middle East by Americanizing it and destroyng its own cultural currency. I suppose I'm cynical, but I'm glad to report that that is not at all what I found. This story was inspiring, and uplifting, and gives a wonderful, mainly objective view of a man trying to combat poverty & then terrorism through education, rather than military action or hatred. Greg Mortensen slowly acquires cultural currency through his interactions in Pakistan, and provides just enough support to communities to help them build their own schools. This book was a beautiful account of someone working with people to make robust, lasting change happen. Highly recommended.

I bought this at a library resale because the idea of going backwards intrigued me. Unfortunately, I think this is a cooler idea in theory than in practice. I always felt like there was some kind of back-story that I wasn't getting, some history I wasn't understanding about the characters. Maybe it was intentional, maybe it was just impractical to include the back-story when we might get the back-story as we go, y'know... backwards. In general, I spent the time I was reading this book feeling irritated. I didn't especially like Ray, either, which just made it the whole thing harder to get through. I think Wallace was trying to say something with what Ray wished for as opposed to what he could have wished for, but it took so long to get to that point that I was too busy counting down the pages to really get the message.
I enjoyed the writing style of this book. Although I did not particularly enjoy the characters, the writing and the way people and thoughts were described did keep me reading. It reminded me of other novels written of that time in that era.

A quiet, melancholy, sad novel shot through with feeling, but never depressing. McDermott writers with a calm assurance about love, loss, ties, obligations and bearing a burden for a lifetime.
a wonderful sourcebook for anyone looking to plan the wedding of their dreams!

This story has a great main character and a great message. Even though it is fantasy many kids may be able to relate to the messages in the story.
