My favorite book of all time. I need to read it again though.
Adorable! Two people meet, fall in love and then tired of the evils of the world, build themselves a home/world away from it all. (Conveniently located next to a house for the insane, whose inmates are hilarious and lovable). Selfish evil relatives make trouble for the contented family and chaos ensues. Money proves to be the root of all evil. The characters are lovable and unique. Well written and all together enjoyable!

These Yada Yada books are a fun read. At first I thought they were going to be too light and lacking in substance, but the more I read, the more I disagree with my initial perception. I especially like the bold and honest look into prejudice...the reality of how we are all faced with living with generations of the pain, mistrust and inequality that rascism breeds. I agree with the author's approach that the healing from these circumstances becomes all or our responsibilities. The author also takes a bold look at spiritual issues such as legalism. The characters are so human and honest. I will read the whole series, but will break it up with other books in between.

This is a fun little dark thing. Reviewing this is difficult - it is hard to avoid spoilers. Skip to end if you've already partaken or aren't planning to.... Miss Sarah, I understand how you could have become frustrated by this. I thought it was cool to have the same plot twist recur and drag you into a sort of death spiral...

Want an alternate view of how to build peace in Pakistan and Afghanistan? You'll find it here, although you'll have to wade through a lot to discover the full and very worthy tale. The telling of it, unfortunately, proves its greatest weakness, as does its apparent effort to serve as a fundraiser and application for the Nobel Peace Prize for Greg Mortenson. After the "Into Thin Air" beginning, the story and the schools build slowly through a fairly consistent middle, then the account starts to rush before it finally corkscrews through 9/11 into Afghanistan. I won't list examples or explain further what I mean, and so dwell on the poor writing. My purpose in mentioning these weaknesses is to acknowledge a wistfulness for a better vehicle for such a worthy tale and to say, yes, readers will encounter some rough patches, but don't, don't, don't let it stop you from finishing the story. The reward--a sense of greater insight and compassion for some areas of the world badly in need of both from the Western world, especially the US, could not be more timely. And as much as I bemoan its overt attempts at self-glorification, I do hope it succeeds in encouraging people to contribute to a different approach to relating to the Muslim world.

I love novels in verse and Lisa Schroeder is definitely becoming one of my favorite verse authors. Going into the novel, I had absolutely no idea what was happening and I had a feeling that "bad things" were going to happen. But early on, Schroeder gives you hints that helps make sense of everything and quite quickly, I think readers will just latch on to the beautiful and poetic verses. I love how our two leads meet and have this one perfect day together. It's possible that others might scoff at this; after all, how can 2 teenagers just hit it off so well, to the point that it seems like they were in a relationship this whole time? THAT, I believe, is the mark of an exceptional writer and Schroeder is that person. The emotions, the beauty of the words, just unbelievable! Bit by bit, both their stories come out and I bawled. I simply cried and cried and I was really afraid of the ending. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone, but just that, EVERYONE PLEASE READ, you won't be disappointed!
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third is not your typical viking, but can he save his friend who has been poisoned by a dragon? In order to do it, he must brave a Doomfang dragon and fight a tribe of ill-tempered vikings to get a rare frozen potato. Oh, and he only has until 10 o' clock tomorrow before his friend is doomed. A wacky, humorous story with a lot of adventure. This title and others in the series will appeal to reluctant readers and cash in on the popularity of dragon books. Recommended for a light, fun, wacky read.

I'm very confused about this book; on one side, I like it. On the other hand, I have problems with seeing exactly what I'm supposed to take away from this story. What exactly it's supposed to saying. For me, Holden Caulfield's character is basically what the books is about. I've seen some of people claim about the lack of plot, but I guess that's sort of the point. There isn't any real plot or climax. It's about what's going on in Holden's head, how he acts and how you can relate to some of it. I think it's a book where you're supposed to either get it or not get it. I'm somewhere in the middle. If I read this in a few years, I think I'll understand. I read this over a few months, and in these months I somehow really changed my opinions and views on different things. Became more emotionally ready for it, I guess. Maybe that's why I didn't like it as much in the beginning and loved it in the end.
