I did not finish this so I am not going to rate it. I love epic fantasy, but am having great difficulty getting into this series. There are so many characters, and political intrigue is not something I find fascinating. If I were stranded on a desert island with all the time in the world I would give this series another try, but I have so many books to read I'm not going to continue to tackle this one for now (knowing there are another four books in the series).

I usually never read books like this. I prefer fantasy books, and even though this book had no fantasy... I loved it. It is in my top five best books ever. One of the reasons is that you get to see the charcter grow and change from a shy country girl who can stand up for herself to a brave young woman who believes in what she is standing up for. Red was a great book that touched the heart. I wanted to cry from pity, anger, pain, and happiness with this novel. A must read book for all women. P.S Team Carlo <3

I'm torn between wishing the movie of this book gets made well or never made at all. So much depends on the time it takes to read: despite his bulk, Ignatius takes a while to flesh out as a character, to become someone who can summon such a range of reactions, from helpless laughter to sad sympathy to contemptuous pity to pitying contempt and points between.

This book of short stories is beautifully written. A great commentary on humanity, love and culture! I felt like I identified with each of the characters and their struggles, loss and emotion made me evaluate my own life. Powerful! I can't wait to read her other book, The Namesake.

I loved this play. A poignant commentary on the death of a language and part of the culture of Ireland. The Irish people in the play are supposed to be speaking in Gaelic, while the English officers who have come to the country to rename all of the places for their maps only speak English. Yet the whole play is in English, thus illustrating how Gaelic has been ultimately lost as an integral part of the Irish culture (there are only a few places where it is still spoken today). Plus I acted out a scene for my class with my friend, so that was pretty awesome.

I can't force myself to finish reading this. After waiting years for this book to come out, I am extremely disappointed. Nothing in the book seems to just flow, everything feels forced. Kenneth Johnson was amazing as the writer of the original V: The Miniseries screenplay, but it seems the transition to novel writer failed for him.
