I read this the morning the DVD came out and then watched the movie...it was neat knowing how they filmed everything.

This is going to be a sort of mini review as there are so many in the series. In this book Mia is still having to attend Princess Lessons, she's still failing Algebra and she hasn't got a boyfriend. Her mum is now engaged to her Algebra teacher and pregnant with his child. It feels like life is falling apart for Mia. She then gets ill just before a big TV interview, she finds out she has a secret admirer and things at school get a bit shaken up. Maybe life can be changed, but is it necessarily for the better? I actually did enjoy this book more than the first, I think because it's less similar to the film and more of it's own storyline so I was able to get into it easier. I like Mia's sarcastic wit and Lilly's bluntness. Again written like diary entries so easy to read and quick to finish. I hope the series continues on as strong.

Mendelsohn's use of his classical and Hebraic knowledge to inform the search -- coupled with his vast intelligence and sensitivity -- make this a remarkable book about those losses.

Borrowed from public library. She puts just the right amount of herself in her book so that I can see how much like her I am and that encourages me to become a writer. Our belief systems differ but I learned tons about writing and being a person. Very worthwhile. Easy read, good flow of ideas until last chapter. Just like she was talking to me. Feel like I know her. I'd like to write like that.

I have to say, I really did not like this book. I don't think it is possible to write a more clueless female character. eh. I'm done with this series.

Thoroughly enjoyed these Jane Marple shorts. By the time the third or fourth story gets told, the ending becomes predictable but no less entertaining. What I love most about this book is how Agatha Christie portrays Jane Marple as an observer of human behaviour which makes it possible for her to deduce the solutions to these mysteries. She was not made to be this brilliant world savy detective with vast knowledge of crime and police work, she's just someone who is observant and level headed with enough intelligence to piece things together. I enjoyed how she was so easily dismissed early on, only to earn the respect of everyone at the table by story's end. I've read several of Christie's Hercule Poirot mystery but I'm beginning to think I may like Jane Marple more and I look forward to reading more of her stories.

This book is a literary masterpiece. If you are a fan of adventure stories give this a try. To quote Goldman, it has: "Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Poison. True love. Hate. Revenge. Giants. Hunters. Bad men. Good men. Beautifulest ladies. Snakes. Spiders. Beasts of all natures and descriptions. Pain. Death. Brave men. Coward men. Strongest men. Chases. Escapes. Lies. Truths. Passion. Miracles." The plot is a brilliantly told. Any exposition or "boring" parts are told through a hilarious interlude from the author. When I first read it, I thought that it actually was written by S Morgenstern! That just shows the quality of the work. All the characters are entertaining and a beauty to behold. No arguments here. As previously mentioned by Goldman, there is torture and violence, but it's handled tastefully. There might be some profanity, but I don't recall much. The Good: The plot, the characters, the pace, the writing, the fact that it's movie is just as good (though some might say that this is barely better). The Bad: Nothing comes to mind. Now go read it!
As a long-time reader of dooce.com, I had mixed feelings about this book. I "witnessed" a lot of it, via blog post, as it happened -- and those posts were often much funnier (and more real) than what she's distilled into these pages. But it's also got some big-picture perspective that's missing when you read the day-to-day minutiae. The biggest problem, though, is that it doesn't feel like a cohesive story. It's often hard to figure out why she chose one specific anecdote over another, and I spent half the book waiting for a punchline or a revelation that never came. It's not a bad read. And, were it my first glimpse into the Armstrongs' lives, maybe I'd have enjoyed it more. But I suspect I'd have gotten bored even more quickly.
