What a fun little read! I really laughed out loud, and couldn't put it down. Who knew 1930s romance novels could be so much fun. It was a little more racy (for the era) and action packed than Jane Austen, but a similar feel. The characters were not nearly so deep, but had fun quirky traits and kept you guessing. I LOVED it and will be looking forward to more Georgette Heyer in the future.

This book is by far one of the worst histories I've read recently. This is the most recent study of the development of the party system in the early Republic, but it could just as easily have been written in the 1880s. Historians for the last thirty years have paid great attention to political culture and cultural ideologies; Sharp ignores that trend. Historians for the last eighty years have given attention to social division and contestation; Sharp ignores that as well. Sharp relies exclusively on elite political sources, focusing his narrative on the activities of Jefferson, Madison, and Hamilton under the two Washington administrations and the Adams administration. The narrative pertains only to the political maneuvering of these men, and uses the most obvious reference points- the Jay Treaty, the Genet affair, the elections of 1792, 1796, and 1800. This book may be useful for looking up facts, but offers very little in the way of fresh insights or interesting interpretations.
Great conclusion to a great trilogy. Lloyd Alexander does it again! The writing is superb and the characters are great.

Disconcertingly Holocaust-related. I guess I should have seen that coming?

Very Good; Continuing character: Joe Pike; Pike plays Good Samaritan then finds himself in the middle of something where telling the good guys from the bad guys is almost impossible, except for one stone killer who may be as good as Pike
i think this book is really intresting i wonder whats gonna happen next!

Called 'The Beloved' in the UK, this is the last in the trilogy about Anne de Bohun, a fictional character who is the mistress of King Edward IV. The series takes place during the War of the Roses when the crown of England was much-contested. It was an interesting time period--not one I knew much about--and the book was well-researched, but I never generated that much sympathy for the characters. I kept thinking, 'Anne, just get on with your life!' I wasn't too sure about the series when I read the first book, as I thought it took far too long to get to the main story. Much of the first book deals with Anne working at the house of a merchant and there is a huge side story about the son of the house and another of the maids. The story doesn't really begin until she begins working at the palace, and the author takes a while to get there. I felt it was a good story, but the author could've easily condensed it down to one book. There were many instances where she took a brief fact or bit of information that could've come across in a single sentence, and developed an entire chapter around it. I do recommend this series if you like saga-type books or very detailed stories, but, for me, I got too impatient for it to finish and resolve itself.
