One of those books I had been meaning to read for ages. Finally got around to it, and it was rather enjoyable. At the same time, I had a weird feeling that I really might have enjoyed it more had I heard it read aloud, or had I read it when I was twelve or so. Had I read it then, it would probably be one of my favourite books, to be revisited often. Now, it's more something I've checked off a list. Good book, but something I probably won't come back to.

I like Robert Parker a lot. His books are extremely easy to read. They are more or less detective books.

Title: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Author: J.K. Rowling Series: Harry Potter #4 Rating: ★★★★★ Summary: Harry Potter is midway through his training as a wizard and his coming of age. Harry wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the International Quidditch Cup. He wants to find out about the mysterious event that’s supposed to take place at Hogwarts this year, an event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn’t happened for a hundred years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old wizard. But unfortunately for Harry Potter, he’s not normal - even by wizarding standards. And in his case, different can be deadly Review: I don’t think any review I could write of this book would do it justice. Even more amazing than I remember it and a real treat to re-read. I especially noticed and appreciated the genius foreshadowing in this one. *sigh* J.K. Rowling, you are my hero. Things I Loved: Everything. The Yule Ball, the tournament, the epic ending. Things I Hated: N/A for Harry Potter!
An interim novel from a great writer. Similar to Lethem's You Don't Love Me Yet.

I love Michael Cunningham!
newport mall's waldenbooks has had the same hundred or so titles since i was this high. when i finally broke down and bought this one out of boredom and a mild interest in the cover, i was plesantly surprised. not sure it'd be something i'd read and enjoy now, but it did alright then.

I loved this book. You don't have to be broke to read it, though that is the target audience. It is really practical advice and the format is really good.
An original, independent, slightly-snarky career woman, a charming, witty, Donne-spouting aristocrat, twisted feminist and anti-feminist politics and machinations, and an English butler. C'mon, you know you want to....

** spoiler alert ** I'm on volume 5 of... 6, I guess? And I am not really seeing how this whole thing will resolve itself. Really, it just seems to keep getting more complicated and unless this author can do some Tad Williams-style pulling of shit together, I'm not going to buy it. Hell, I'm not even sure what the this story is about anymore. Dorothy was an obvious villain, the whole her being Ivan thing was kinda weird (also - sex scene... cliche. and creepy when you think about it later...) There are like, 4 different time-lines going on at once and it makes the whole thing feel really disjointed and I'm still wondering where the hell this is going. One thing though - it makes me remember that I want to read "Lost Girls." The art though, is pretty beautiful, especially the covers.
