Note, this is a review of the whole series as far as I've gotten. For this volume, it's a good interesting beginning for an all around excellent series. The characters are honestly varied (take a shot for every time I say something to that effect in a review :P). While a teenager's point of view isn't exactly original, the premise for said teens is. All the characters serve their purpose by being as likable or horrible as needed. Basically, they're all pretty awesome. The series has some of its best moments when involving as many characters a possible. The plot moves along nicely and drives the reader to want to finish. The motivations and twists are all interesting and it has generally moving moments. This is one of the series out there where the popularity is actually understandable. There is swearing, violence, disturbing imagery, but not any nudity as far as I can recall. The Good: Great character variety, interesting plot, cool action scenes The Bad: Maybe *TOO* many characters, might seem a bit disturbing to some. The Verdict: Give it a read! Great series (at least watch one of the two anime series based off of it).

Not a typical Stephen King. No horror or gore. Actually a wonderful mystery story.
Couldn't do it. I knew I was in trouble as soon as I read the first page. The writing is weak and superficial and the story has a lot of vapid characters. The premise had potential but it ultimately just fell flat. In terms of retellings Song of the Sparrow by Lisa Ann Sandell is better by miles even though it's not a faithful retelling of Tristan and Isolde per se. This book was acquired for review from the publisher at BEA 2011

As I read The Realtor! I wondered several times...was Phil in the right or wrong place at the right or wrong time? There are situations in this story to match however you'd fill in the blanks. The main character amazes himself and others with his heroics more than once in pursuit of the realtor, a young woman who often lets her ambition get in the way of her heart and happiness. This is a great story that will take you from suspense to smiles to tears...and not just once!

I am not a sci-fi fan, but I loved this book. Story revolves around Jesuits leading an expedition to a distant planet. Don't be put off by the premise! A lot of characters and a little difficult to get into at first. I am a fan of Mary Doria Russell. Also enjoyed "A Thread of Grace", about Italy during WWII.

This is RBP at his most awesome. It's almost ready-made for a Michael Mann/Robert DeNiro movie. This whole idea of the Broz crime family having family problems didn't start with the Sopranos. RBP really captures tense, hold-your-breath moments. Action scenes rock, and his spare prose keep it rolling. Didn't want this one to end.

This book was amazingly powerful. It provided a very realistic view of the world during World War II. It was just the right combination between focusing on the main character and focusing on the what was happening in Germany.

If you know me well, you know I love books like this, that carry me to cultures and countries unfamiliar and inaccessible. This book is the epitome of that! I am unlikely to ever travel to the sub-Sahara and meet the people there, given the violence and natural dangers of the area. This area is largely Muslim, and so Tayler writing about his time there after the US was fighting in Afghanistan but had not yet toppled Saddam's regime there was a LOT of anit-US sentiment. I think for the first time I understood why Bush bore the weight of the blame for this, whether the people making the judgements were educated or not. It was in Bush's time that worldwide communication was widespread and for the first time, the people of Africa saw the US as furthering its own interests, as opposed to being the peaceable shining beacon of democracy for the entire world, as it had always been portrayed to be but never fully was.
