Definitely always going to be one of the best books I've ever read, my whole life. It was genious of Harper Lee to write about such a heavy subject through the eyes of a child. Also, the biographical aspects of it make the book come even more alive. I love how it's not a heavy book, it's simple and so endearing. Sometimes I just wanted to give Scout a big hug.

Sleeping Beauty: Vampire Slayer is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. But it's nowhere near the same Sleeping Beauty you remember from your childhood. This telling has vampires and slayers, and a lot more action! This book also lets you chose your own adventure, which is a lot of fun! Princess Lucette, aka Sleeping Beauty, was cursed by the evil Natasha, Queen of Sanguina, the Vampire Queen, when she was just a baby. If the princess is ever to prick her finger, the curse will make her sleep during the day, and be the only one in her kingdom awake at night. All of the villagers in her kingdom are also affected by the curse, and will sleep all through the night, only waking the next morning. Since the vampires from Sanguina are awake only at night, this poses a huge problem, as there will be no one awake at night to protect the princess. The princess has to learn to defend herself, and her kingdom. Only true love will break the curse, but how in the world can she meet guys at night, when everyone else is asleep?? Read the book and chose your own adventure to find out! This book was so cute. I really enjoyed following the main character, Lucette. She really was a brave, determined girl. She wanted to be a slayer so bad, and she went after it. She also cared for people, even the bad people, and was compassionate. There is also a love triangle in the book. I won't go into that too much because I don't want to spoil it, but I enjoyed reading about it also. I also enjoyed reading about the king and queen. I'm definitely going to have to purchase this book for my daughter. I think she will really enjoy it! I know I did. :) Thank you to NetGalley, Silver Dolphin Books and Mrs. McGowan for allowing me to read and review this book! Happy Reading!

Comments: Brilliant, especially the discussion of the 'City of the Pagans'. I love his discussion of Roman Religion, riffing as it does on the earlier work of Varro and his 'esoteric' division of religion into the civil (political), natural and mythical. Also, his seeing the neoplatonic philosophers as precursors to Christianity was very sharp. Look here for a sober assessment of Nietzsche's contention that 'Christianity is a Platonism for the People'.

clever, a little long winded in parts. but an interesting story.
Overall it was a good book. The author writes in an interesting manner. It was funny and easy to read. But what I didn't like is the fact that while she talks about not being obsessed with food, it sounds like she's obsessing about food throughout the book. Maybe because I was reading about it and that's what the major topic was? I don't know. In any event, I've used some of her methods and I'm happy with the results thus far.

My one complaint is that the book right before Execution Dock came out 2 years ago and there was quite a bit I did not remember. My emotions were raw as I read about Oliver's betrayal and I hope that my unanswered questions will be answered in a future story.

One of the best books of 2010. Super entertaining, but then I'm always a sucker for the geeky underdog.

Lance Olsen writes: Slowly, [Hieronymus] Bosch came to admit that he would never be famous. He would never be the talk of this town, or any other. The recognition ached like a body full of bruises. He could hardly wait to take his place before his easel every morning to find out what his imagination had waiting for him, yet he had to make peace with the bristly fact that recognition was a boat built for others. He had to content himself of the rush of daily finding – the way milled minerals mixed precisely with egg whites create astounding carmines, creams, cobalts; how the scabby pot-bellied rats scurrying through his feverscapes were not really pot-bellied rats at all, but the lies flung against the true church day after day.
