This is an odd allegory about order and anarchy, good and evil, and human nature. Police infiltrate a council of English anarchists, leading to a series of chases, disguised enemies, and plot twists. The conversations are often full of comedic puns and wordplay, but are also packed with philosophical statements. I’d need to read it again to fully grasp the symbolism. There are a few hints at its Christian undertones from the beginning, but they really surface at the end. I listened to the free LibriVox audiobook.

I found the perspective about the contrast between Newark and the suburbs interesting, especially the upheaval of the 60's, and the specifics of how that impacted Newark inner city. The interplay of the family dynamics seemed somehow hollow & less true- almost a cartoon, and this disappointed. Given my own background-growing up on eastside of Cleveland, witnessing similar inner city riots, suburban flight, racial tension, etc, i guess i expected more depth & insight.

How refreshing it is to read a novel about the Reformation and Henry VIII’s marital woes from outside the royal court. Ms. Bennett has breathed life into some of the most prominent historical figures of the time in this well-researched novel. I was inspired to do a bit of research of my own while reading this story. I simply had to see images of the paintings described in the book. It's easy to see at a glance why these paintings would inspire so many questions. Ms. Bennett's exploration of these mysteries resulted in a story of betrayal, trust, politics, and love. I really enjoyed reading of how Meg, the main character, struggled with issues of loyalty and trust, unsure of even her husband’s identity, in one of history’s most turbulent times.

Title: Star Girl Author: Jerry Sinelli Pages: 188 Publisher: 2000 by Knopf Books for Young Readers Isbn: 0439488400 (isbn13: 9780439488402) Jerry Spinelli is a well-known non-fiction author for most teenagers for his other books Loser and Crash. Star Girl is not an exception. Spinelli starts off this story of protagonist Star girl moving to Mica High School. He implies characternym to emprasize the specialness of Star girl, sparkle and murmured by other students on her first day’s arrival. Secondly, this book shows “ordinary life, extraordinary living”. A ordinary girl like Star girl turns this book alive by doing extraordinary things – she plays ukulele during lunch period, say happy birthdays to birthday girls and boys, and ignores all the giglings although she doesn't have much friends and she sits by herself all the time. The turning point did not come until Leo Borlock has a crush on her. I read this book about a year ago however, I still remember the dark blue sky that described in the book. Star Girl is a wonderful book, I enjoyed the reading process and I would love to recommond this book to teens who likes imagery and are seeking for extraordinaries.

This was my favorite of the series. I know, I know, it's a depressing book. But I think that if an author can enduce a strong emotion from the reader they have accomplished something. I was asked why I liked the most depressing book the most, if you've ever been through depression you find yourself completely understanding.
Nice introduction to a very original series. While I have read series about Dragon shifters already, I have never read a whole series about them. There are not many Pyr (dragon shifters) in the world, only about a dozen, and half of them have decided to turn evil. These destructive beings call themselves the Slayers. They just wanna kill every living Pyr on Earth so killing humans will be even easier, but mostly they just wanna take their race to their 'rightful' place. While I did find the Pyr idea original, I felt the way the plot was described completely tainted it. The good guys against the bad ones, the bad guys trying to rule the world, the huge attraction between the main characters and the way they were not sure if they could survive and make their relationship work... blah, blah, blah... read stories like this one a hundred times already. So while it had something that made it a bit more interesting that others I've read, it was still more of the same IMHO. It did have some elements that could make things much more interesting though, if the author decides to exploit them. I really hope she does, because I can see that this series has potential. Also as most first books in a series, too much information was given at the same time and not correctly explained, which I hated because it's always so interesting to read every detail about new worlds. That's what I like the most about this genre. So let's hope next book explains things better and in a slower and more detailed way.
I really thought this book was very much like "brain-candy". I liked it, though.
