A 'must read' for anyone wishing to de-construct the funny-mentalists arguments, such as 'one needs religion to be moral.' From imaginary friends to the exclusiveness of religion, this is a work that needs to be in every thinking person's library.

Jason and Eric are such cuties. After a little slump with one or two of the previous books, this one really stepped it up again. And Ms Martin had me at NEWF!

I generally dislike most of the education texts I've been forced to read over the last five years as they seldom have anything to do with actually teaching in a real classroom. This book had some good strategies in it, and that's all I ask out of an ed-book - don't be a complete waste of time.

Well written. Not quite as funny as some Pratchett, and a little confusing on the place the characters hold towards the end of the book (who is the love interest? Is there one?). Fans of this particular set of characters will enjoy the continuation.

I hate to rate such a classic piece of literature only 2 out of 5. Let's assume that that reflects more on me than on the book. I had trouble keeping up with Mr. Alighieri for most of the book. If it wasn't for the commentary at the back of the book that I would flip to ten times a page I would definitely not have made it. It was entertaining to immerse myself in the medieval world of Italy and learn Dante's perspective on life. He viewed Church and State quite highly and thought it was a shame that Christian rulers got enthralled by stately things and Stately rulers did not care about Christian things. He had a place in hell for every bad leader and a place in paradise for every good leader. I doubt his view of a State controlled by the Church would be very popular today.

The most enjoyable element of this book is the savvy meta-fiction fun you get from the veiled references to the Narnia and Harry Potter books. The author does a really wonderful job of capturing some of the most enchanting elements of those series and then quickly turning the conventions on their heads, usually connecting them to just how sullen and unreasonable an unhappy teenager can be. I was sure this was going to be a 5 star book in the first half, but ended up being a tad disappointed that the early promise wasn't entirely fulfilled -- fundamentally, i think its because the main protagonist just isn't likeable enough. Highly recommended for anyone who likes to get snarky about Harry Potter on occasion or for literary criticism english majors. Recommended for anyone else!
