I know the author doesn't like her early books, but I thought this was a really good one. The message is VERY plainly stated repeatedly, and not as entwined with the plot, and maybe that's her embarrassment, but I enjoyed it. Read it in a few hours.

This book does not know what it wants to be. Also, it is no more than a lengthy first chapter of some longer piece, as all it did was introduce characters. Nothing happens. It hints at something . . . mystical? but only at the very end, and that doesn't seem to be picked up in the next book at all based on the excerpt included at the end of book 1. SNOOZE. Will not read another in the series.

Amazing!!! Carol Shields is awesome I'm not sure whether to give this 4.5 or 5 stars.... I am going to get the book and read (rather than listen) it too, it's that fricking good! Well I just decided, have to give it 5 stars *** Just read this book again, it is so beautiful, definitely in my top 5 ever!

BORING. Period. Not what I was expecting at all. I thought we were supposed to find out about Henrietta, not the biology of cells. Don't get me wrong, there were interesting parts in the biology stuff, but I wanted to get to know Henrietta. All I found out about her was that she was a kind woman who loved to cook and her husband slept around a lot. The author even mentions at one point in a conversation she's having on the phone with H's daughter that she's been talking to other family members and has learned the most awesome stories...well why didn't you share those stories with us?!?! I wasted a week on this book. :-/

It came out with good support. everyone liked to read it! but when I started the first book it was really amazing!!! It took u inside the world of harry! monster characters, scenes u find inside the novel. the dog with 3 head I never forget! sometimes I was terrified to continue the book. When the movie was released it was near to what I thought about the scenes... and it made me watch the movies coming out one after another.... anyway...

Clearly amazing books. If you have not read them...well you need to because it will take you through an epic adventure and you will never want to stop reading them. I cried at the very end of the last book because i was so sad it was over. I had finished them!

Not her most popular novel, but certainly one of my favorites. I'm a huge Jane Austen fan, but I was surpised to read recently that Jane Austen felt Pride & Prejudice candycoated victorian society too much. Many people don't like Mansfield Park b/c it is darker than most of Austen's other novels, but I appreciate the book, since I think she intended to critize society of her time with her writing ans does her best job with this novel. Still, Austen, as always, provides an end to the story that leaves the reader pleasantly at peace.
