so, I liked the story and some of the characters, but once I reached the end i was more confused than when I started. Though the characters seemed to come to peace with everything, I didn't. There were so many twists and turns of who was using whom, where things started, and which side of the battle everyone was on that I felt sorry for Brian the one who seemed most hung out to dry. The writing style was also hard for me. When it was about the mystery it was well written, but there were moments when the tangents of "color commentary" came in and were more distracting than helpful. It truly is a story of dysfunctionality obsession and addiction, and these were well portrayed.

This biography flows nicely and introduces some of the basic principles of geology. Also great illustration of the fine line between science/religion and genius/insanity. Steno was one interesting Dane.

I enjoyed this book but it took me almost a year to read..not sure if I will get through another Wally Lamb book. Depressing, uplifting and insightful. Lots of depth and excellent writing.

When I started this book I fell in love with Mr Harvey's writing. I quickly got into the story and the characters. Then it started to get confusing and I found myself often thinking "what the hell is happening??" I also often found myself thinking about the pro-choice AND pro-life issues that this book brings forward. The last bit was pretty heartbreaking. All in all I really really liked it.

this gets four stars because i'm still wrestling with a question it raised for me, which is: can i be good and passive at the same time? i'm not sure i like hornby's answer, but i'm not sure i like my own, either.
