I absolutely loved this book! I remember thinking "wow, this would make a brilliant movie"! And, who knew, a couple years later and it has been made into a wonderful (if not depressing) movie. The author, Jhumpa Lahiri, has crafted a very real story of an imigrant couple from India and their struggles raising a family in America. I saw many parallels with my own family and what my parents must have gone through. I definately recommend both the book and the movie, which remains true to the novel. Read it! See it!

Pretty funny, Anthony Bordain is brutally sarcastic and loves blather on but I think he is one cool dude even if he thinks so as well

adolescent and not much of a story - drawiings - or otherwise interesting.
I had never put much credence into the scientific research striving to teach apes and monkeys to speak and understand human languages. But Crichton had done his research and uses it to create an authentic story that is gripping and interesting.

I learned about the Channel Islands and about the German occupation there. I have not a read a books as good as 84 Charing Cross Road until I came across this one, It was a gift from a librarian who knew I would love it and I did. It is beautifully constructed in a letter format and develops a depth of character that is amazing and real.

I kinda wish I had waited till Monday to read this book. It was amazing. I wanted to keep reading , and not put it down but with school and 'duties' it was kind of hard. My favorite parts of the book where Ellie and Will's relationship. It wasn't instant love, and they actually got to know each other again, or rather Ellie got to know Will one more during her new life cycle. By the end of the book we know why Ellie is different, why she is the only Preliator in the world in all history and who chose Will to be her guardian. I am really looking forward to book 2.

A fascinating review of the women of the LDS church. It's a little dry in some places, but there is an important legacy there that too many Saints have left behind.
so random and absurd. my kind of story!

I really liked this book! If you have ever spent any time in Chicago, it is really a must-read. And even if you have never been to the windy city, I think the book is truly fascinating. It is composed of two true stories: the Chicago World's Fair and the serial killer H.H. Holmes who operated just west of the fairgrounds during that same time period. I thoroughly enjoyed all the interesting originations that I never knew were traced back to the Chicago World's Fair: shredded wheat, the Pledge of Allegiance, Columbus Day, juicy fruit gum, zippers, the Ferris wheel.... This really is a book of two true stories that are both too incredible for fiction. I was able to get through the serial killer parts by thinking of it as a fiction. That all changed at the end with Holmes' last murder-spree. It just too much for me and I had a hard time sleeping at night (which is why I have to downgrade to 4 stars in the end). I just wanted to read it quickly to get it over with. It reminded me that there truly is evil in the world. The tone of these sections, I thought, was similar to Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood". Very factual, not gruesome, but the subject matter was disturbing enough. I did keep wondering how none of his neighbors that frequented Holmes' shops never warned his "women/wives" well enough about his nature. People just didn't have a healthy level of paranoia back then I guess. The dichotomy between the genius of the architects and the evil genius of the mentally-unsound Holmes was very interesting. I agree with the author that these two stories wouldn't have been as memorable without the other. (I enjoyed reading an interview with Larson where he referred to the Holmes story as "porn" on it's own.) I look forward to the tour!
Brillante y difícil. Vale la pena contemplar! ¡Lee despacio y saborea!
