A favorite Maine painter of mine, this book is so fun to read. Andrew's life is full of mystery and magic and horror...and all that feeds his art. I love his search for the "realness" in people and things.
Excalibur has ended up in the Nightside in the hands of John Taylor (who is, even to his surprise, the new Walker) - and no one is all that pleased about it. Even him. But it turns out that he is the only person who can turn the sword over to the only person who can stop the war between the elves that will end up destroying all of the Nightside - and eventually - all of humanity. Really, a fun book in the great Nightside tradition.

I think this is more of a "guy" book (of everyone I've talked to, guys always seem to like it better - it's about comic book writers), but his writing is just so amazing!...

I have been a huge fan of DFW's work, but this collection of short stories left me flat. The relentlessly depressing tone of several of the stories grated on me, and outweighed the few in which the author's usual brilliance and wit shone through. His past short story collections have been much stronger, in my view.

If Parker was a screen writer, he'd be writing screenplays where there was a lot of talking and character development and thinking and tension but not a great deal of action. And where there was action, it would be fast and ugly and shocking. In that more cinematic sense, he's like the Takeshi Kitano of fantasy fiction - blackly humorous, obsessed with detail, and utterly in control of each and every thing that doesn't happen on screen. But if you expect another Fencer trilogy, or even another Engineer, think again; Parker continues to prove he is one of the most unique writers in the genre, capable of breaking his own mold while still retaining all his flavor.

Este libro hizo de mi un lector... fue el primero que leí en serio y desde entonces no he podido (ni he querido) dejar la lectura.

When I finished this book, I was emotionally drained. The ups & downs of poor Katherine Forrester. I am encouraged by her stubborn and strong attitude. Even though she feels she is weak, she is really strong. Through her experiences, good and bad, she is strenghthened. I enjoyed reading this book. I look forward to "The Severed Wasp".

I enjoyed this installment of 44 Scotland Street stories much more than the second (Espresso Tales). It was wonderful that Bruce moved away and we didn't follow him! And yet we got to follow Domenica to Malaaca and her stint among the pirates! There was less of Pat which I didn't mind either. I especially enjoy being able to hear Cyril, the dog's, thoughts. I am not going to wait too long to read the 4th book in this serial series from The Scotsman.
