Another book on the brain and how it works, not just in happiness, but in all ranges of emotion and perception. Now that I have finished this book, I am probably going to read it again and again... He has several experiments the results of which I have found true in my own life. It's a lot of basic psychology that we all know, yet tend to forget about when making decisions. Don't try to predict the future too much. "The grass is always greener" sums it up. I do highly recommend this book, especially to those who feel they are constantly making poor decisions. If you are at one of those pivotal moments in your life, this is a must read before you make a decision that will impact the rest of your life. It will help you logically, rationally think out your options, and remind you to not act on impulse based on emotions.

I learned that whales aren't fish. They need air to breath. There is a whale that has sharp teeth like our teeth and they hunt seals and other whales. I also learned that people hunted whales for oil. And, the humpback whale makes a very weird sound. Some whales eat little sea animals. This was a great book. I like non-fiction.

Admit it! You've read books this dumb, too. As I'm reading this one, though, I'm wondering if they've all been this stupid or if I'm just being impatient right now. We'll see how it wraps up, though. update: As chick lit books go, I enjoyed this one. Better than its predecessors, I think Becky is becoming more likable and a bit less crazy in her shopaholicism. Plus this book has a villain to root against, which we girls tend to like.

Just reread this and found it even more meaningful now that I'm a bit older and anticipating the age and stage Frank Bascombe describes here. The greatest strength of Ford's writing is how he stretches time to make a holiday weekend feel so epic, while drawing you so deeply into his protagonist's life.
