Meh. This was an ok book, but it definitely didn't intrigue me or make me want to stay up late reading it. I didn't get drawn into the story or feel any strong emotions from the characters-I won't be reading the other books in the series.

I have never read a book like this, and wanted to read it even if I hadn't won it in the Giveaway. It was like reading someone's diary, that one finds under the bed. Jason Breedlove is an Iowan who was incarcerated in the Iowa prison system. He kept track of his thoughts, dreams, and mistakes. The book describes (briefly) his life before he got in trouble (his childhood would be interesting to know more about). It was compelling to learn about his feelings on the "outside", in between his prison stays. Like many who have been jailed, he almost preferred life on the "inside" where he got exercise time, TV time, and 3 square meals. Breedlove could relate to the personalities in prison, better than he could to society, when he was free. There were evenings when I was reading the book, that I became a bit weary of his attitude. I've never understood how a person can do Behavior A, knowing it will result in Punishment B. But then, I don't know anyone personally, who is a habitual offender. I'm sure things have a rhyme and a reason in their worlds. Which is why I would find it intriguing to know more about his past, what made him this way? Breedlove has a previous book; I will check into it, maybe it is about just that.

This book is written as a series of essays, each written by one of the 5 Browns. Sometimes funny, sometimes serious, I found the essays to be engaging and witty, revealing 5 pretty ordinary - although amazingly talented - young adults living anything but a normal life. An enjoyable read.

Absolutely love this book. It's a huge undertaking but I think I've gone through it 2 times. I think it's the only book considered a Western that I've enjoyed this much. Probably because it is more than a Western with all the great history thrown in as Michener is fond of doing.

I was determined to read this one, as the follow-up to the first book that I reviewed here previously. I got this book for free at the same time as the first, but it looks like the price has now gone up to a very reasonable £1.99. I’d say that comparatively speaking, the prices are very reflective of the source material. This second book was a lot less depressing than the first, and whilst still giving a lot of in insight to how idiotic both humankind, and the NHS bureaucracy, can be, it was a tiny bit more uplifting. It’s very telling that towards the very end of the book, Tom/Brian starts questioning why he continues to do the job. I think the last time I checked the site, he had transferred to a nursing unit somewhere, putting his skills to a less mobile use! Anyway, if you enjoyed the first, you will definitely like this one, and if you were a bit skeptical of the first, then you might like this one better. If you didn’t like, or weren’t interested in, the first one then steer clear, as this is very much more of the same. I have found another Kindle book about life inside hospitals, so look for a similar review coming soon!
