In my opinion, the research the author has done on England/London in the 1700s does not flow seamlessly within the narrative. The story is interesting, though, and children who enjoyed the early Harry Potter books will probably like this book.

a hauntingly beautiful story of the space between loneliness and existentialism, and the battle between the two. treads into dark territory at times, but the core of the book is universal and will tug at any reader's heartstrings. this was my first murakami. it lead to a summer camped out at the bookstore frantically devouring all of his novels. like most of his works, the bleakness leaves you vaguely depressed, but murakami writes so well you can't help but dive in again for another dose of misery.

In sula many events leave you questioning your morals. Toni Morrison's description of events keeps your face shoved into the book. Her meticulous details are not what keeps people hooked on her reading. Her imagery is the soul of her book. She makes you feel like you are one of the characters. The events that take place in the book show represent many different themes. Sula, one of the main characters, struggles through anaylizing herself and what she believes is justified. Nel, Sula's best friend, is a character who tries to decide her review on how sula has changed. She doesn't understand how to adapt to Sula's change.
[My first goodreads review. I don't really do this kind of thing.:] I just watched Breakfast at Tiffany's on Netflix. It has a cat as a central element of the story, as does Murakami's beautiful Wind-Up Bird. In both we identify with a charming, well-meaning man who chases after the woman he loves. There are reporters, wealth, rain, and at the end I cried. So it's interesting to see how Murakami, unlike Capote's screenplay, took me beneath - well beneath - the rush of the chase and catch, the almost-heartbreak and eventual rain-soaked catharsis. For Murakami, lost love is so much more truly lost, and the depths to which our narrator, Toru, reaches in an effort to reclaim what he knows he needs are brutal, subconscious, and very very literal. If Tiffany's Paul Varjak most clearly sees Holly Golightly when singing on her windowsill, Toru sees his lost wife Kumiko somewhere between a bloody back alley and tanning in a fifteen year-old girl's backyard. But it's beautiful, really. Beautiful and thoughtful and creative and damn, you need to like your narrator and his style, and Murakami's Toru is exactly what I wanted. I cook pasta to the same music as he now. I want him happy, but only because I know him so completely. That's artistry.
I am currently reading this book. I love to read these Native American stories and to enjoy the wonderful photographs. The quality of the paper and photographs are breath-taking!
My first introduction to Atwood and it blew me away. The feminist story is both bleak but compassionate. The future is scary!

Have just listened to this book again & it's definitely growing on me - in that it just gets better & better. I love Elena who is such a strong character who can stand on her own two feet despite the knocks that she has received. Whilst Raphael is just gorgeous - such a great other half to Elena. Fantastic.
Sayangnya, kerasanya cuma going through the motions, gitu. Ini mesti dibahas, ya dibahas. Itu mesti dibahas, ya dibahas. Trus, aku ngerasanya penokohannya kurang kuat. They got the job done, but nothing more. Mereka ngga membentuk jadi tokoh atau cerita yang utuh, yang hidup dalam imajinasi. Robotic, not human, begicu. All in all, ini bahan ceritanya sebenernya bagus, cuma kurang tergali aja.
