This is a review for the whole series so far, since I feel about the same about all of them: The books are pretty formulaic, but different enough that they are all interesting. The main character is a good wizard but goes about things a bit unconventionally. He can be annoyingly chivalrous and always is annoyingly close to dying but in general is a solid enough character. The stories are varied and the ideas presented in each one fill in a bit of the lore of the books. The ideas behind the universe the author has created are interesting, so I like hearing about different aspects of it. The best part of the books is the setting. Modern day settings mixing with magic is always great, and these books do the clash of the two much better than Harry Potter. Best of all, it takes place in Chicago, so the story keeps going places I've been! I also like the detective agency aspect. All in all, not really high literature, but definitely an enjoyable read.

This is a great book for learning to be proactive instead of reactive in child training. Teach them when they are young..if you wait it will be harder on you and your child.

Fun, hilarious - great read for any woman! Great characters!

I read this book after I lost my first husband. It really spoke to me. I could pick it up and read little excerpts and think, "Yea, that's what I feel, but he just put it into words". I recommend it to anyone who is grieving. A great gift for a grieving friend or relative.

I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. Usually 18th century books aren't exactly page turners, but I DARE you to put this one down once you start it. Well, that's a lie. The first few chapters are kind of a drag, but it suddenly picks up around chapter 4 or 5 and then keeps going up and up until it reaches its crescendo at the very end. Not convinced yet? There's witchcraft, anti-Catholicism, and Lucifer. Luci-fucking-fer. Read it.

not sure what all the fuss was; maybe my expectations were too high. did like the construction of the story telling though. and the descriptions of loneliness and loss. so poignant.
