in situ as far as reading, but it's a collection of short pieces by the Master Robbins. Read 2 travel essays so far, including one journey to the "Canyon of Vaginas" in western Nevada. Yeee-ha!!! my next vacation destination, ya know...
I primarily chose this book because I love Alice in Wonderland, and I generally don't like mystery/detective stories. But somehow this combination worked for me. I loved the story. The main character is a passionate, independent lady that I found myself relating to. The general quirkiness of the plot was adorable and it made me want to read the second one, despite my hatred of reading sequels.
Well, it's another Temperance Brennan book. The formula is the same as the previous two volumes: bones are uncovered, she is assigned to the case, the local cops give her a hard time when she tries to help the investigation, someone close to her gets involved, she takes measures into her own hands and she almost gets killed. Then everything turns out fine. That said, I like it. I like the formula. It works for me and that's why I keep reading. The background story changes from one book to another and I always learn something about forensic analysis or some other subject. This time it was bikers and blood spatter (which kinda reminded me of Dexter). All in all, it's a nice, entertaining book.

I loved this book from the very beginning; liked it better than "Girl with a Pearl Earring". I was not crazy about some of the characters but loved the writing and the way the book was laid out. There is too much to say about it except it made me happy, sad, tense, and mad. That is a good book! Page 268 of my copy has one of the saddest paragraphs I've ever read when Kitty has to let Maude go One of my favorite quotes comes from this book... "Over his shoulder I saw a star fall - It was me."
keep reading through the first section-- it is the hardest to stomach, and it gets MUCH better after the second section begins...it is literally like one of those weird Russian nesting dolls-- the stories work inward, and then they work back out.
Awsome book to read the whole series is on of the best.

This is a hard book to read. It has allot of harsh imagery. It is a great book though as far as historical fiction is concerned. If you are a hisory buff this is a must read along with his Irish books!

I've read this book last summer, because it came as an extra with the summer issue of glamour magazine. This book is very different from things I usually read, but it was quite a welcome difference after all. Each chapter starts with a recipe and from there on tells about the main character and her forbidden love for her sister's husband. Although their love really convinced me, there were some things in their story I didn't like. They could have made better choices, which would have made both of them so much happier. They just make things more miserable. Tita is a nice character and you always feel for her, but sometimes I felt like Pedro was a bit a coward. He married her sister "to be with her", but it hurt Tita so much. So some parts of the story line quite irritated me and I didn't like Pedro too much. Maybe it has something to do with the cultural difference. Also, I didn't really know what to think about the ending. All in all, the book was okay, but nothing more than okay to me.
Listen, I don't care if you hate Austen and think liking her makes me a bad feminist. You're wrong, and she's awesome.

Interesting. The narrator is autistic, so the perspective is unusual. (There is a bit of profanity, so if that is an issue for you then don't read this.)
