don't be too cool (nerd disclaimer: better than rating all 6 books individually, right?)

This was an amazing story. The pain and the virtue. The undeserved and yet freely given love. While reading this I have thought of nothing else.

We had to read this book in 11th grade in our history class. I loved it. It is an historical fiction account of three generations of an Eastern European family working the steel mills of Pittsburgh. A great insight into the divide between the rich and the poor, the American and the immigrant, the capitalist and the worker. A complex portrayal Andrew Carnegie, one of the fathers of the American Industrial Revolution.

I love this story! I understand why some readers are critical of the prose; but keep in mind that the book was written for teens. As a parent and educator, I appreciate that the heroine is an independent thinker, polite, a conscientious student and non-materialistic. Bella drives a junker, hates shopping, does not seek to be one of the popular kids, and is (mostly) respectful of adults. OK; she can also be pretty dense, reckless, overly emotional..and, Oh Yeah, she hangs out with vampires and werewolves. BUT if she were a true model teen (From a parent's perspective), the book would be really boring!

It seems like the simple nursery rhyme, but look closely on each page, and you'll see a number of objects matching the numbers being said in the rhyme. The first page just says "1, 2..." but the illustrations are of 1 dragonfly and 2 eggs. Read this one-on-one with a little one and practice counting.

I judge weather or not a book was any good by how I remember it. If I remember vivid images, like a movie, then I LOVED it. If I remember "reading" it, then I LIKED it. If I remember picking up the title one time... well, then it simply wasn't memorable. That being said, I LOVED this book.

I really liked this one. As with most of Vonnegut's novels it is hard to successfully encapsulate the plot and tone of Cat's Cradle in any concise way. Vonnegut, an outspoken humanist, examines religion, dysfunctional behavior, and the end of the world in this outstanding novel. The text is littered with intriguing insights into the human condition and its various idiosyncrasies. Extremely readable, highly recommended.

This book was nice. I did enjoy the writing style and character development, though I felt that the plot line was a little blah. Not bad or boring, and actually very much a 'real' plot line when it comes to actual real life events, but lacking something that made me really like this book. Overall, I would recommend it, just don't expect it to be the best book ever or anything.

This was a fast read and, although I enjoyed it, I liked "Alex and Me" better.
