If I remember correctly, I read this book in high school on my own and wondered, "What's the big deal?" I found it difficult to get through, and enjoyed talking about it with pretty much everyone else in the world, who was obsessed with its greatness. Fast forward to college, when I took a course about the Beats, and of course, like everyone else in the world, I read this book again and was converted. What Kerouac sells here is a version of the American Dream that didn't really exist for anyone during his time. He and his buddies found this way of looking at our manifest destiny, and to say they exploited it successfully would be a huge understatement. Then as soon as the book was published, the drug-induced pseudo-freedom of art, movement and sexuality that the Beats preached fell into the hands of everyone and began to dissolve, although the total dissolution would take many years. I find such sadness in Kerouac (and he obviously also found it in himself). I also find it amazing that this book failed to touch me at 18, but grabbed me by the throat at 21. That's good writing.
One of three of books about the Wulf brothers. Werewolves and love story mixed. This was really good. Did spook me at first.

Meandering at times (not surprising for a "recovering addict" memoir) but a unique storytelling approach, weaving together present-day interviews of people the author wronged during his dark days.

This is a good phonics book for emerging readers. Whereas it doesn't really tell a compelling story, the mouse in the book moves letters around to make words rhyme such as ten and hen. The illustrations are simple, but understandable for a non-reader to "read" the book through looking at the pictures. This book is great for paired reading.

What is your current relationship with God? How is your salvation? Do you read anything more important? Need I say more?
I like this series of the Womens Murder Club but he does use some "language".

If you love words, you will love this book. If you love words that may not technically be words, you will also love this book. If you care about grammar and proper usage, you will love this book. If you want to know what a hoo-hoo is, you should read this book.
