This was my constant companion from when I was just 7 years old and I discovered this in my dead Uncle's library (1952 edition).

The first 25 pages were about Goldy trying to revive a person who was clearly dead, and then finding a phone so she could call an ambulance to try and revive the person who was clearly dead. Very poor editing. Also I thought it odd that she didn't mention that her ex was dead or how her son was doing. The tie in from the previous book was the half brother and Arch getting to know each other. She did that tie in without mentioning the ex had been murdered. We also found out what happened to Latte from two previous books ago.

I was sort of sad I hadn't read this in grade school, so I was glad to have it assigned for my freshman philosophy seminar. Great read, a classic.

Somewhere in the early development of my literary sensibilities, and right after I read Dubliners, I got this crazy idea in my head that I was going to read everything that James Joyce had ever written. There are only 4 major books, after all, so how hard could it be? So I decided to move on to Portrait. The beginning part went smoothly. However, when I got to that long section in the middle full of nonstop religious references and Mary the morning star and on and on and on... and on, I was so painfully bored and it brought back way too many memories of Catholic grammar school that I decided that, while I could finish it, it just wasn't worth torturing myself any further. Sometimes I'm tempted to pick it up again, but all I have to do is start reading that middle section and I think of all the other things I'd rather be doing, like reading other books, going for a walk on the peaceful streets of Brooklyn... sleeping...

This book is not one of Cecilia Aherns best. It took until chapter 8 to get into this book. Even then I found the main character so annoying but I'm guessing thats was the point. But personally I can only deal with an annoying character in small doses. The story line is great with an amazing twist as always and as always there is a moral and her characters are definitely human even if she does highlight there flaws to the point of revulsion especially in this one but on the plus side it wasn't as drawn out as her Where Rainbows End. If I could give it a 2 and a half I would.

I was unfamiliar with Joshua Henkin's work but, after reading Matrimony, I have become a fan. This is basically the story of a couple's relationship from college through to married life and beyond. You feel the emotions of both parties which is not always the case in fiction. When the book ends, you wish you could follow this couple for many more decades of their lives.

This is one of the best books I have read in the last several months. I just loved it! The reviews are all correct:the timbre is just right; not mushy or overly-sentimental. Great writing. I just wanted it to go on and on...
This is an awesome little book. It was written by a professor that I know at NYU-in-Paris. The book is very simple and very dark. It is an easy read in French if you aren't very experienced with the language. I really appreciated that Morin could evoke such feeling in such simple language.
I enjoyed the author's lesser known and earlier book: Angels and Demons immensely.

What's very interesting about this book is that Atwood takes a very incomplete true story, based on very old court transcripts, and creates a full, intricate, rich story out of them.
