Absolutely wonderful. I'm a Roth fan.

This is a sad yet heart warming book. I enjoyed the main character's transformation as he learned to see actions from the eyes of others.

A perfect book for the place and time at which I read it - while on a three month project in a foreign country. The book is mystical, obsessive and lovely in its exploration of how to transition between discrete parts of one's life.

This is the worst classic ever. There are no sympathetic characters, just people throwing temper tantrums and trying to ruin each others lives. The worst part is that the resolution pardons all of the misdeeds that were committed without anyone having to learn or grow.

short and quick read, interesting plot but could have been better

A very good introduction to Jesus as a teacher, using the best scholarship as well as the author's own experience to elucidate what it was that Jesus offered to his disciples before he died.

"The Storyteller of Marrakesh" was a mixed bag for me. I'm enthralled with Morocco, and the book certainly provided a wonderful sense of place, Morocco's citizens, and what it's like to live there. But the story itself was only so-so. It's clear the author had aspirations of writing a story of great insight about truth, beauty, and mysticism. Unfortunately he falls very short. So much of the dialog frequently sounds trite and hackneyed. Nevertheless, I recommend this book for fans of Morocco.

When I read this book the first time, I was focused on the process of grieving, mourning, overcoming loss, and found these processes well analyzed and described. Now I read it again and found the whole piece so utterly elitist that it rendered those insights gained earlier useless (because non-applicable to your average human). In fact, the whole attitude almost made me angry at points. I wonder how this didn't irritate me that much earlier.

less dark than his first about Oz yet the author really likes to walk the dark side of peoples characters. It is interesting to do this with fairytale folk who have the happy ever after titles. I found this one a bit more to my tastes yet the ending was disappointing to me. For a author that likes to set things upside down I felt the ending was predictable.
