A lovely animal fantasy story, similar basis to Brian Jacques Redwall series - a bit like a combination of Redwall and Robin Hood really. Obviously this is targetted towards the young adult readership, but I do feel it is a little over simplified in places - such as how the sheriff is always on their tail on their quests, but when the weasels are home in half moon wood having loud celebrations, he's somehow never around hmm. I'm also not that impressed with how rats are made out to be evil creatures as it does conform to a stereotype and may leave a lasting impression on oung children reading the book, who are already told by society at large that rats aren't nice animals. It would be nice for a book like this to paint rats in a good light. Other than that this book was a good heart warming read.

Very interesting, Levitt shows how using data mixed with uncommon sense and some hard work you can peel back layers of conventional wisdom and find startling truths. Some of the things he finds are interesting, but the thing that makes this book so good is that you can see how, by asking the right questions you could discover things that matter to you. While I may not be interested in Sumo Wrestlers, or crack dealers, I can use some of his methods to look at other issues. Very easy and fun read.

What a stunning exploration of the west, a feminist western. Strong sense of place. Not an extra word, syllable, or letter. An example of how to put pressure on the language, pressure on the characters.Molly Gloss has a new book coming out in November, looking forward to reading more of her work.

Very sad, but very funny in places too. How the author managed to pull together a coherent story out of this 'chaotic' homeless person's life is some achievement - though apparently it was Stuart's suggestion that he started with 'now' and went 'backwards'. It works. What's most touching about this book is the genuine but unlikely friendship they developed. You find yourself rooting for Stuart, but also screaming in frustration. Makes you think about the darker things you would rather pretend didn't really happen, and in cosy Cambridge too. Stuart's teacher's letter at the back of the version I read (some freeby from a paper) is all the more poignant knowing what happened.

Heart wrenching and thrilling. A wonderfully written and innocent view of the world from a young child who is raised in isolation. Makes you think about why things, customs, norms are the way things are, that not everything is self-evident.

I both loved and hated this book. Hopefully when I'm less busy moving, I can write a proper review.

I read Steven Millhauser over again whenever I feel like there's nothing new happening in fiction, and no new fun experiments to try. He plays with form continuously, and you can see how much he's enjoying it on every page.

My 3rd grade teacher read this to our class, and I absolutely loved it then. This book, and a picture on the back cover of a little cat, inspired me to make a little ceramic cat in college that I still have. I haven't probably read the book since 3rd grade, but I still found it intriguing today. Some things and phrases are quite dated, yet it still stands the test of time. I am surprised I could not borrow this book from the library. It is quite a classic.
