Besides saying I really enjoyed and loved this book, there isn't much more I can say about it. There was more than one time when I had tears streaming down my face as I read. And forget about putting it down before it's over. Rachael Treasure has done an amazing job at describing the wildness and raw beauty of Tasmania and Australia. Her characters are also written beautifully. Even when you're frustrated with Kate, Nick, and Henry, you can't help but root for them and hope that things will work out for the best. I can not believe I have not read anything by her before, but I can tell you I will be hunting down the rest of her back list and putting her on all lists to come. I did not want this book to be over. I am confident that you will like it as much as I did.

John Wells has been undercover with a Muslim group in Afghanistan for so long that even his handlers aren't sure whose side he's on. When he returns home following a terrorist plot, there aren't too many friendly faces willing to trust him. This is a pretty good thriller which races along and keeps the reader interested.
I enjoyed "taking a break" with this book; its humorous style and short story format made it ideal for filling in odd moments throughout the day and providing relief from heavier reading. I really can't understand why any careful reader would think this book dull. True, most of the stories utilize the same main themes (cuckoldry being the most common, I think), but the quality of the writing makes the common-theme stories unique and engaging throughout. If something seems odd or nonsensical upon the first reading, I would suggest going back over the passage to look for double (or triple, in some cases) meanings -- I definitely would have missed a lot of the charming humor Balzac employs if I had not slowed down at certain points when reading his work. I'm sure a lot of his "pun power" was lost in translation, but the editor of the edition I read made quite an effort to fill-in the English reader to the lost complexity whenever he could, a practice I found very helpful. I loved the amazing engravings featured in the work -- their complexity and macabre styling was quite impressive, so don't skip by them if you happen to have an edition where they are included.

I don't know about the self referential stuff by Stephen King. It may work in the New York Trilogy but does King need to resort to post modernism to tell a story? Oh well, I'll have to read the last book before I give my final rating.

This book was a spin-off from a comic series (which was also made into a TV series) - and a follow-up book to Captain Pugwash A Pirate Story and Pugwash Afloat. As such I should really have known all the characters - but John Ryan does a great job of ensuring this book works well as a stand alone work. Overall this book wasn't spectacular, simply the usual mediocre fare from a long-running series.

I thought that this was a fantastic way to depict angels and demons. It was unlike anything I had previously read and I couldn't put it down!

Good story. Definitely for the younger crowd, but a very good moral for everyone. I like this author because she is always writing about being comfortable with who you are and finding your own strength and talents. Great books for teens and preteens, but entertaining enough for adults too.

I use this textbook for my intro to environmental studies class - it does an excellent job providing a blend of basic science, environmental law, and public policy. It's too expensive, but what are you gonna do...

in many respects i found this a rather odd book. Lewis seemed to spend a lot of time on aspects that didn't drive plot or character development and then would sometimes rush through pivotal moments. Far less interesting material and i found the characters not nearly as likeable than in the previous two Narnia books (i skipped the horse and his boy to read (later) it in the order lewis wrote it in, even though in Narnia's chronology it came before prince caspian). but it did have moments of classic Lewis insight. I particularly liked chapters 9 & 10 and also the discourse between Aslan and Reepicheep and Aslan's comment to Caspian regarding his heritage, both in chapter 15. I have a feeling much will need to be at least somewhat revised in order to make this into an interesting film.
