Wonderfully short and sweet! I have always loved the same titled Hallmark movie, and am glad to have seen the spirit of the book so well portrayed.

The story of Snow White like you've never read before! Set in Appalachia in the 1940s, Summer lives with her grieving father who later becomes bewitched by a woman who not only practices witchcraft, but also attends a snake-handling church that terrifies Summer. Although much time is spent building up to the familiar elements of the Snow White tale (the hunter's attack, the house with the seven little men), the back story is important and helps readers understand both Summer and her stepmother.

Neat book. I appreciated the mention of the "leper colony" in Carville, LA. I got lost driving around once and ended up there.

I personally loved the book. It was entertaining and yet gave you a glimse at life of someone with an eating disorder. It was very different than most of the books I have read on the same topic (ie- Wasted). But i think that is why I enjoyed it so much. It was a little less depressing of a read but still got the ideas out there.

You might find this in the SciFi section of the store, but it isn't so much SciFi as an adventure (not like Indian Jones though)shared by sentient beings. It really is a good book and one that I would recommend to any book club.
This book resonates with me and contains many things I want to be true; 20 years after its publication, not all of them have come to pass. Still valuable though, and I'll be following this work as it develops.

Viva la Monja Alférez! This is the story of Catalina de Erauso, a 16th-17th Century "transvestite nun." It's her short autobiography -- first a nun in the Basque region of Spain in the late 1500s, she donned men's clothing and escaped. She passed as male in Spain, working here and there, and then left for colonial travels to South America (Peru mostly, and Chile). There she soldiered, dueled, killed, and adventured. She eventually confessed her transgressions and became legendary. Although the prose is not that interesting (and not at all lurid), the story is fascinating.
i loved this book! one of my favorites. at birth this girl is cursed. she must always obey every order given to her. soon her father marries again and her stepsisters find out her secret. there is love and magic...what more do you need!

As the only child of a widowed bookseller in 17th century London, twelve-year-old Meg Moore stands to inheirit her father's entire estate. Because she is an heiress, Meg will be able to take part in the bookselling trade - her greatest wish - and will be able to chose her own husband. But Meg's entire future is changed when her father decides to remarry. Meg dislikes her new stepmother, Susannah, even though Susannah tries to be kind to her. She fears that Susannah will provide her father with a son that will take Meg's place as his heir, and that she will be reduced to marrying any man that will take her, or even worse, working as a maid. But over a year of change, Meg realizes that accepting Susannah can only bring good, and that there are ways that she can help influence her future, even if she is not an heiress. This was a fascinating glimpse into a time period that is not often written about in young adult fiction. Highly recommended.
